Looking for Swiss Army Knife Recommendations

I have a dozen different SAKs, but 99% of the time I carry the Explorer. It's the smallest SAK I know if that has scissors, an in-line phillips screwdriver, and the correct can opener (I hate the combo tool on the Compact and Bantam). If I could, I'd swap the small blade for a nail file. Then it would be perfect.

If I'm not carrying the Explorer, then I probably have a Small Tinker, Super Tinker, Cadet, or Wenger Traveler.

Pomsbz not sure what you mean? Make a combo?
And everyone thanks for the heads up on the multi tool forum.:thumbsup: See you over there! :D

Meaning that you can take apart the SAK and make up your own version of one with tools of choice. Or in the case above, I simply removed an entire layer to make a light and thin pocket knife.

I've been carrying an Executive in the watch pocket of my jeans for at least 10 years. I've lost a couple here and there and but they're cheap enough that it doesn't matter. Very functional little knife. I routinely use mine at children's birthday parties and that kind of thing, opening presents and so on, and I've never had so much as a funny look from anyone. A red SAK is about as non-threatening as it gets, (my 8 year-old daughter has no problems using the scissors), and for daily use in a city, the little SAK does pretty much everything you'd realistically need it to. I use the toothpick and tweezers frequently, along with the scissors, and keep the the "main" blade razor sharp.

On days when I need more blade, or just feel like it, there's plenty of room in my pocket for a larger folder, even though the little Exec in my watch pocket sees the most use regardless.

Although I don't carry the Executive model, I agree with your post with my evolving edc choice(s). I can always carry a larger folder with (in my case, the Small Tinker) if I believe I will need a heavier or larger knife. I keep a couple knives in my truck should the need arise. I do like having the tooth pick and tweezers available, but for the most part, sak scissors are not used.

Even if I have another knife in my pocket, I almost always reach for the SAK to use whether I'm at home, work, or in the woods.

In the past, I always wanted a folder than would fit my hand with pretty much a full grip But I'm beginning to see that this preference is simply not necessary.

This thread lightened my wallet to the tune of one Vic Compact, in yellow for something different.

Funny I never knew of that model until now. Looks almost perfect except no alox scale options and I'd rather have a phillips than the corkscrew.

I think a Compact with Alox scales that also retain the scale tools (something only modders do right now) and a Philips screwdriver would be the ultimate SAK. I would miss the mini screwdriver though.

For me it would be the Mechanic with Alox scales, corkscrew, and a large file (some call it a metal saw).

So an Alox Rambler with tweezers and toothpick? I like the idea!

My preferred SAKs are the Rancher and the Electrician:

Hooray! My new Executive arrived today. I just love it, and the size is just what I was looking for.

Your reply saved me some typing. Pretty much word for word what I would have said. That little knife is very handy.

I usually have a Buck 110 or sometimes a sheath knife on my belt. The watch pocket Executive does what the big knife can’t.

I carried a four blade sack for a while then a Champion. Today if I wanted more tools than the Executive I’d carry a Leathman Wave.

I would go with a tinker or a cadet. I carry a leatherman micra everyday for the scissors and and tweezer,an alox electrician in the other pocket and usually a modern folder like a vantage avid
