Looking for your thoughts on Ray Laconico Bushcraft/Woods Knife

I carry my Laconico quite a bit. The scales are on the thin side which I like on this knife. I carry my knives in my pocket with a lanyard from the sheath to my belt so the the thin overall package is welcomed. I haven't had any issues with ergonomics. These knives also work excellent in the kitchen and I'm sure would make a great self defense blade also.

BTW .... I love the smell of mine so if anyone thinks theirs stinks I'd love to adopt it!

:eek:I've heard just about everything that can be said about my knives but I've never heard anyone say they smell bad. I can't figure why my knives would smell much different from any other knives. I need to go and smell other peoples' knives to see what it is!

And, if you do that, then make a Youtube video, it will go viral.

Oh, and I think that you make great knives, I just seem to be slightly late when one comes available. Have you noticed that they go quick when you post them up?

Ray ..... I hope you read this post so you got my sarcasm! :)

I've got these two a couple of years ago, their fit and finish is good, but when they came, they stunk like you wouldn't believe. I mean that literally, they smelled of industrial solvent or something, I had to put them in the garage and clean them several times, but have never been able to get all the smell out, and it got into the sheaths also.

Their dimensions are good, and they cut pretty well, but definitely are outdoor knives....

Lightguy, that knife that you own of mine is really old! I think I made that one in my first year of selling knives. I'm glad it's getting some use. The handle on that knife is probably a little bigger than I normally do on my bushcraft/woods knives. My hands are about medium size and I make my handle so that they're comfortable to me.

Yep - it's one of your first creations, and I'm proud to have it. It wasn't easy, but when I saw it I had to coax it away from the previous owner. But, this one just can't be collected - it does it's job too well. It's probably one of the most comfortable knives I've ever used. The weight, balance and awesome grind make this a sweet compact chopper, battoner and all-around awesome camp knife. I haven't found anything else that would even come close to replacing this knife.

Have you made any others like this? I'm pretty sure it's one of a kind. I have no doubt you could easily sell this model for some serious $$$ if you decided to make more of them.

LightGuy ... I think you found a great score. Rays' knives looked darn near as good in his first year as they do today!

I'd love to use that one.

........ I'll refrain from any odor jokes .... lmao .. to funny!

Lightguy, I have the knife your describing. It's the woods knife, but in 3/16" It's an awesome chunk of steel and I really believe Ray is an artist. Can't really answer many of your questions as I don't actually use mine and probably never will, I just get it out and fondle it. I wish Ray would do more scandi's, but I understand that's just not really his style. BTW, I love that old one you have, awesome looking handle.

That is a killer knife for being one of the firsts. I can see a progression though on your knives now Ray. They are subtle but they are there. I wish my grinds were that good. Im still in my first year so maybe they will get there soon!

Sounds like a great knife remmmm. Looks like I'm going to have one that's very similar. It'll also be 3/16", in O1 steel. Can't wait to get it. It will be a great compliment to my large Laconico.

You can't go wrong with Ray's knives. I have five fixed and one folder, and I wish I had more. They are so well made, and work so well. You would be hard pressed to find something better.

All I can say is the next time I see one in the sale forum, it's mine. I always seem to miss them. One of these days though...

This thread has me sniffing all my knives.
