Looking for your thoughts on Ray Laconico Bushcraft/Woods Knife

I have owned two knives that I sold - and regretted - and got back.

One was a Rampless Gunny - the other was a Ray Laconico that he made for me (Cocobolo Scales). The guy is a robot. The knife is damned near perfection.

WOW....that knife is Sick! That's probably the coolest Laconico I've seen to date. Any way to get a couple close-ups of the knife/handle, and maybe an in-hand shot. Congrats on getting that one back!

TF - thank you sir! Those are some sweet pics of a sweet blade....just makes me look forward to the one I've got coming even more. Thanks to you, mine will have a slight drop point like yours - something I haven't seen (before this one) in his bushcraft/woods model.

I actually make most of them in the similar style blade as TF's. They are always a little different though. I don't always use patterns and when I do I use them very loosely. I'll try and get your knife done this weekend or early next week. I just want to finish what I'm working on right now.

Thanks for the update! Really looking forward to this one...especially after this thread!

Ray - I don't own double bevel knives - period. I own Scandi's or convex's. But your knife has a special place in my heart. For me - it just works. Its simplicity is amazing. It fits, it works, it is easy to sharpen, and holds a hell of an edge. I learned to free hand sharpen double bevels because of this knife - and now it finds rotation in the knives I carry.

Keep makin' great blades man.

I agree that Ray is a robot. His knives are flawless. Ray will say that they aren't, but i've been collecting knives for as long as he's been making them... Flawless I say.....Flawless. Nicest knives i've ever owned - Period (I've had tons of knives over the years. None as well put togther as his).

LightGuy, would sure love to see more pics of your first Laconico, that unique one shown on page 1.

I happen to get lucky and grab one of rays stout camp knives and I love it. it's definitely one of my favorite woods bumming blades (though I don't feel like I'm bumming with I have this knife with me :) his grinds are hella clean and the knifes just don't have imperfections. I was almost scared to use it at first lol. he made me a very nice horizontal leather sheath w/ fire steel holder to complete it. I'm going to try and get with tal and see if he can hook me up with a dangler set up for it and then it would be crazy versatile.

These are some really nice looking knives. I have always been a production knife kind of guy, but this thread has changed my mind.

I would love to have a custom knife from Ray. This style appeals to me, clean, simple, strong.

I sure hope Ray's Bushcraft knife is good one. I bought one the other day from him, and am eagerly waiting for the postman now. :D
