Okay guys so here goes. I'm a newbie when it comes to knifes so be patient with me I recently bought a Kershaw Leek and I love it but then realized it was a little to small for me I was looking into knife brands and benchmade has really caught my eye i'm trying to buy a nice quality knife and I know you get what you pay for now my problem is I want an EDC and I live in CT so no assisted opening knifes or double edge knifes over 1.5 inches are legal and single edge knifes are legal but the blade can't be longer than four inches a couple questions I have and I need help
1- is a single edge knife any standard pocket knife?
2- I'm interested in benchmade and I need a knife for EDC that's legal and not too expensive
3- I really want a benchmade but I'm open to all brands so you experts give me your advice
Sorry it's so long just want to make sure I'm not doing anything illegal and that I know what I'm getting into thanks.

Don't count out Spyderco. When I had first gotten back into knives in the early 90's I was hearing a lot of buzz about them, but being a traditional knife owner in the past they just seemed a little strange looking to me. I decided to buy one to see what all the fuss is about, and the rest I history - I now own over 50 Spyderco knives. I suggest you look at the Delica, Endura, Native, and Manix to see if any of them appeal to you.

I've done my research and know most of the good brands spyderco is a great brand I know that for sure and yeah the funky blade design doesn't appeal to me but I'll look into it thank you

A knife is not a good choice to protect you in a bad situation especially if a firearm is involved.
True that normally I don't worry about self defense but you never know I don't have a gun or a carry license so I'm trying to work with what I have now never know what might happen should always be prepared though

Noted. Yeah I was just saying that just in case. Main use of the knife would be an EDC and I would use it like a tool not a weapon

The griptilian in d2 can be had around 120 and is a great knife holds a adage well. Or the new bugout very light and has got a lot of great reviews in a short time. The freak is also a good knife very much like the griptilian only complaint about it I have it the rubberized scales makes putting it in the pocket one handed some what hard.

How about we give him other quality options. He may not know he can get a great knife under $100.

Since you followed me up with the same wording I started my comment out with I assume you are making the comment to me. I agree recommendations of any good knives I think is great. My comment was to the SD comments. To the op I’m a BM fan more then Spyderco not saying Spyderco isn’t worth a look. But with you the blade shape no matter how hard i try doesn’t work for me. I’ve owned a few used and tried to like over time just sold the off. Best thing is use opinions here to point you in a direction then try to handle the ones you like the most before buying.

In answer to your question #1, Yes, usually folding knives are single edge, unless you are looking at Out the Front (OTF) automatics. Single edge knife can be either a folding knife or a fixed blade. Tons of candidates out there for you to choose from for a non-assisted <4" folder. A lot of Flippers are assisted opening, but not all. You have a choice of Slip joint, thumb stud, Locking (frame, Liner, Back, etc) G10, Bone, Titanium, Wood, Horn, Serrated, straight, 1 blade, 2, 3, ...

Benchmade (BM) is good. Also Zero Tolerance (ZT), Spyderco, Chris Reeve (CRK), Kershaw, Buck, We, Kizer, Lionsteel, Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC), Swiss Army Knives (SAK), Boker, Opinel, ... And that's not even the snowflake on the tip of the iceberg. In this forum, you will find no shortage of ZT, CRK, and Spyderco disciples. But those brands are not the only game in town.

Decide what you want to use the knife for, and then the choices start to come into focus. EDC is a broad category. For some that means being able to slice open boxes and cut lunch. For others it means being able to cut cable, pry up redwoods, and defend against a zombie apocalypse.
