After playing with my friends mini Grip with a spider hole I am hooked. I want to experience a spyderco. Leaning towards the delica because of the under 3 inch blade and price. I was curious if paying a little extra for the wave is worth it? I would be using this as my work knife (why it has to be under 3 inches).

Does anyone have any other spyderco knives they would suggest?

Thanks!

Keep leaning towards the delica! Its a fantastic knife. Ive had both waved and non waved delica's. I wouldn't bother with the wave IMO, its a "fancy" feature that you wont need. I think it looks better with out the wave and you get to use the spydie hole more!

Delica ffg without the wave feature is what I would go with. More handle colors plus the ffg blade I have the wave endura and find I don't carry it that much.

The Delica is an excellent knife. You could also try:

- Salt (blade length 3")

- Native 5 (blade length 2.95")

- Caly3 (blade length 3")

For a work knife, I'd skip the wave.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Does the caly3 only come in zdp 189? I am not familiar with this steel. One thing that turned me on to the delica is vg-10. I am going to learn to sharpen soon and I have heard that vg 10 is forgiving. However, the caly 3 is beautiful! What is zdp like?

The native and manix look great too.

The regular VG10 Caly3 is discontinued, although they do pop up for sale in the Exchange now and then. ZDP takes quite a lot of practice to sharpen. I'd learn on something else first.

Delica!!so good I went crazy and bout two in the same steel in case I lost one! :p

Dragonfly. Better ergonomics than a Delica. Comes in a number of handle materials and steels, including VG-10. It is smaller than a Delica, but that may be a plus for your work knife.

Suggestions on spydercos, o boy, there are so many. From my expierence, edc, endura Delica pm2 domino sage. My true love is the military with satin blade and black handle.

Agreed, though I carry my waved Endura more often than my Delica and PM2.

Delica was my first, and is still the best work knife, IMO. :)

Delica (2.88", VG10) or Native (2.95", S35VN)

I've used my Delica ZDP as my garden knife but, for "work", I would prefer the Native.

The Native has a more robust blade, better steel, finger choil for choking up with solid control, and the handle fills the hand better, especially the G10 version.

And I would not recommend a waved blade for work.

When I first wanted to try a Spyderco, I nabbed a cheap, used Endura off the exchange. Saved a fair amount of money and got a knife I didn't feel bad about beating on and using hard. It really allowed me to test a Spyderco without hesitation and sold me on the brand.

Delica and Native are both great suggestions.
Caly 3 is a really nice knife but ZDP is a bit more difficult to sharpen, and is not a great steel to learn on.
The wave can be a really nice feature if you need really fast deployment - but a lot of the time it will get in the way. As a strict utility/work knife, I'd skip that feature.

FFG blue Delica and/or satin Para2 are my top top picks, you'll treasure them both forever. If you get a Delica first you are more likely to buy a Para2, if you buy a para2 first you are less likely to buy a delica which is kind of a shame haha. You almost can't go wrong with a spyderco despite the hundreds of options. I love my orange s30v military the best.

For work, Native 5 g10 is a good choice. The pm2 is a great knife, but I've been told many times at work it is a bit too tactical and scary for some people. Just depends on how sensitive your coworkers are. The spyderco domino is another choice I've contemplated for awhile, it has a 3 and 1/4 blade but only 2.89 cutting edge. Not sure how sensitive you are about keeping it under 3 but its not a bad knife either.
