Also sounds like your Battle Mistress is an Ergo (BM-e), the one released after the original straight handle BM (SHBM), but can't be sure without a pic. :)
 
it is a busse straight handle battle mistress, the original kind, not the remake, without false edge, and black linen micarta handles, email for pics i guess?
