Looks like I"ll be pulling the trigger on an AMK 77 grinder

Okay....I had to do the nickel test on my new KMG.
Just got the 220 hooked up to it today.
Set the nickel on it's edge at the end of the tool arm and started at about 10% and slowly took it up to 100% and the nickel didn't move.
Nice and smooth.

I've still got some work left, but it's getting there. It will be nice to get away from the 1x42 Kalamazoo I've used since 2011, even though this is only a hobby for me.

It's good to see all the options out there for people right now.

Stumps,
I see a lot of people placing their new grinder on the table exactly like yours. I did it too with my first grinder.
You want to pull it forward until the main base plate is flush with the table edge. That places the front of the belt out over the open area. This allows grinding in a vertical position without interference of the table. It also sends the sparks and grit down into a catch bucket or dust collector.

@TonyRV2. I noticed it's been awhile since you posted about getting your AMK 77, about 5 to 6 months. How do you like it. I just purchased mine today.

I've been mostly lurking for the last few months mostly because my knife shop is in FL and I'm currently at my Michigan home doing leather...sheaths mostly. Justin is correct though, by the time I got to the end of that rather lengthy thread in which I declared my intent on purchasing the AMK...I'd convinced my self that the Esteem was a better choice for a variety of reasons that I'd deemed important to me personally. But like I've said many times, there are at least a dozen grinders out there that anyone would be happy to own, and they'll all grind a knife. One just needs to make that choice that they feel is best for them and then begin to proclaim its the best on the planet.

Its a few miles outside of a little town called Hawthorne, about 20 miles east of Gainesville.

I think that my wife and I looked at a place or two near Citrus Springs before we purchased this property. We basically took vacation time and traveled all over FL trying to figure out where we wanted to go. I'll be spending a lot more time there once I retire at the end of this school year.
