Lord, forgive me, but I hate Sheeple!

If we do not acknowledge that they exist, slowly they begin to define what "normal" is. I say that we normal people define what normal is.

I carry a larger blade (Buck 110 these days) in part for the utility, and in part to fight back against whiny PC social workers and the the like.

cheers

When I lost my beloved small custom EDC knife a few weeks ago, I came here looking to find a replacment. In the mean time, I decided to carry my Large graphic Sebenza. I'm a Hospice nurse who is in and out of various hospitals and nursing homes all day, and knew it wouldn't be long before someone said something. Healthcare is a bastion of the P. C. Today it happened. An LVN asked if I had something he could use to open a box, and I handed him my Sebenza. He said WOW! obviously admiring the knife. A social worker standing nearby said "You can't bring a knife like that into this facility." I asked what was wrong with it. She said the facility policy says a knife blade can't be longer than the width of your palm. I have fairly large hands, and demonstrated the Sebenza's 3.5" blade was indeed almost an inch shorter than the width of my palm. This lady is five foot tall, and might weigh 100lbs when she's carrying a heavy purse. She asked to see it, then demonstrated saying "Well it's longer than the width of MY palm." I didn't argue further. I just said Ok, and put it back into my pocket, knowing I had just bought a used small Sebenza and the Kershaw TiZDP Leek, though if the width of "her palm" is to be the standard, they might well be too large also!

i know this would have gotten you into trouble, but still. you should have taken the knife back from her, taken the box that was just opened, and said "excuse me, but i have to go "murder this box now." and then slowly start poking little holes in it, all the while giving her the riot act. all of that just to irk her to no end.

yeah that isnt the mature way to do things, and i wouldnt do it myself, but the thought sure would cross my mind!

I bring my knives w/me wherever I go, and i think its hilarious when people ask WHY i'm carrying one...usually AS I'm cutting an orange, ect. It should not matter what they think. As long as I'm not using my knife to violate a law, I can carry and use one in any situation.

I've had sheeple co-workers react to a 3" folder when the office workshop was full of hammers, crowbars, and utility knives and the kitchen drawers had all kinds of 6"+ knives in them. It's all perception. Most of the guys where I work now carry quality folders-- from the owner on down-- pleasantly "old school" on the subject of a properly dressed man needing a pocket knife.

Just start twitching and talking to non-existant people. Every once in a while, turn around quickly and scream "STOP IT!!!" when there is no one behind you. Smile weirdly at inappropriate times and mumble :D

Not to hijack or anything, but this is the problem I have with these "sheeple suck" threads. Granted there are some liberals who are afriad of knvies and guns, but there's probably an equal ammount of rightward leaning folks who have the same feelings.

I grant there may be more than a few, both parties are very broad tents by nessessity, but I'd argue that the numbers anywhere near approach "Equity" on this given most all anti's be they environmentalists, ACLU fanatics, race-baters, gun haters, Christian bashers, anarcists, etc..... are overwhelmingly far-left leaning, as are lawyers, academics, journalists, etc....

My EDC is a nearly four inch Benchmade 710, and guess what? I'm as liberal as it gets. I believe in the constitution of this wonderful country and all the freedom it gives us, including the second amendment. The only thing keeping my from owning as many guns as I do knives is money. My entire family are liberal democrats and I leared to use knives and shoot guns at a very tender age (my first knife was a Buck 110 at the age of 6).

Great! It may surprise you to know, I come from a traditionally "Democrat" family. A Military family. I'm a decorated veteran, as was my brother, father, uncles, grandfather, his brothers, great grandfather back threw the civil war. The Democratic party today, is not the Democratic party of my parents! Honestly, I think FDR would be a republican where he alive today! Please understand, I understand the label "Liberal" covers a lot of territory, but also try and understand my perspective. I'm 39, I grew up in the wake of the "Hippies", and by the time I came along, most real adults had had it up to their eyeballs with these brats, and wheren't about to take any more sh*t from some kid. Being from a military family, I remember the hippies a little differently than they remeber themselves. I remember a bunch of filthy, fowl mouthed, promiscuous, disrespectfull, junkies, prancing around with their little protest signs, refusing to work, stealing from their families to support their drug habits, demanding everything, contributing nothing, and openly disrespecting everything and everyone who sacrificed to give them the freedoms they abused! Most of them have dedicated their entire lives to diminishing or destroying everything their parents and grandparents worked and sacrificed their entire lives to build. They call this the "Counter-culture", and it's stated goal is "Rage against the Establishment" wich it defines as the established Government and Religion. Most of them have spent their entire lives doing an excellent job of exactly that! This is why our churches and government are in the sape they are in today! Our Beaurocracies are bloated, ineffective behemoths, incapible of performing the basic functions they where created for, and our Churches and temples are marginalized and openly mocked in the public sqare for their principals. I understand, there are "Liberals" like Zell Miller, and Joe Liberman, who don't fit this mold, and many of them have my respect, but they have been religated to an obscure and silent minority in the Democratic party today.

The sheeple problem has nothing to do with political correctness (the very idea of a PC world makes me vomit a little inside), it has more to do with education and application of skills. If someone wasn't raised around knives and guns, and tools for that matter, they won't be as likely to see the usefulness and value... and some will have the idea that a knife is a weapon no matter what.

I've had my fair share of sheeple experiences and I just chalk it up to their upbringing. As long as you're carrying legally and responsibly, you don't have to answer to anyone.

In your case though, I see this more as a liability issue, especially in health care facilities. There are some complete nutjobs in some of these places and you don't want them getting a hold of a knife.

Anyhoo, pardon my rambling and I now return you to our regularly scheduled programming.

I disagree, I think it has little to do with our societies advancment from the industrial age into the information age, and everything to do with ideology, disrespect, and intolerance. I find no one more hatefull, biggoted, or intolerant, than the modern liberal. For example, they preach diversity and tolerance, but present them with diverse ideology, like say competing entirely on merrit, reducing entitlments, increasing personal accountability, choice in education, capping frivilous litigation, faith based inititives, etc...etc... See how open minded they are. Let's look for an example at an Ivory tower of liberal elitism, the ACLU. When was the last time you saw them defend a caucasion who was the victim of race discrimination by the likes of an Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson? When was the last time they defended a Christian or Jew's freedom of religious expression? When was the last time they litigated against a violation of the "Second Amendment"? When was the last time they advocated enforcment of an imigration law, rather than opposed it's enforcment? They preach diversity and tolerance, but they certainly don't practice it.

I realize I can't steriotype all liberals or hold them to account for the sins of liberal terrorists like ELF/ALF, race baiters like Sharpton/Jackson, so called peace activist like Cindy Sheehan/Jane Fonda, or even the self promoting celebreties who denounce our country and promoting communist dictaters like Castro/Chavez even though they include major Democratic party leaders such as recent presidential canidates Al Gore and John Kerry, and Speaker of the house Pellosi. However, many liberals steriotype me or any conservative as backward red-necks, or Uncle Toms as I belive our current and previous scretaries of state where referred to by the presedent of the NAACP. However, understand that I no longer grant liberals much benefit of the doubt when they stand up and get all indignant making statements like "How dare you question my patriotism, I support our troops, just not this administration." when I've witnessed the patriotism of so damn many of them, burning bra's and draft cards, burning and wiping their asses with American Flags, standing at airports trowing trash and spitting at soldiers in uniform, heckling and humiliating WWII verterans, volonteering to be human shields for our enemies, traveling overseas and publicly denouncing their country, vandalizing national cemitaries, Etc.....Etc.... I have to admit, everytime one of them tries to steriotype me, or legislate something away, be it my guns, knives, cigarettes, SUV, or take the ten Commandments out of a public building, or whatever..... some real legitimate resentment bubbles up, I get a little steamed at the whole damn bunch, and anyone who defends them, is very likely to get an earfull!

I guess I am lucky. I live in the third largest city in the state, yet we are still hilbilles. I see more belt sheaths and pocket clips everyday than I can count. I even see a few fixed blades around. Unfortunately, rarely do you see a good quality knife. The construction crowd still seems to really be into the Buck 110, and Schrade LB7. That being said, I only pull my blade when needed, except in private. That way, if anyone asks why, I have a reason for having it. And I know sometimes, when you are so used to your knife, to no knifers it may seem to just "appear open in your hand" like magic. Like a wave knife, or spydie drop. This can really spook some folks. Of course there was the time a lady I didn't know asked for a knife and said she expected me to be carrying a bigger blade! I was using a little neck knife. And the time two pretty girls needed a beer bottle top off. I pulled a boot knife and pried it off. They thought it was right out of a movie or something. So, don't worry about people who are afraid of sharp steel. Be nice to them, and buy them an SAK classic. See what happens.... JMOAU = just my opinion as usual

I have a picture of three Ken Onion Taboos (my avatar) as my desktop wallpaper. At a sales meeting, a co-worker saw the knives and said: "Wow, why do you have such scary-looking knives on there?" I asked her, "What makes them scary looking?" She wasn't able to explain it. I told her that they were like art and tools, not weapons.

That is a great reply ,
But of course it is a crude example of our society's violent tendency's. And meant tongue in cheek of course!

After rereading it I can see how if you didn't know me it could be taken as a bit psychotic. my apologies for poor taste.

Peace.

My first reaction would have been to spin around like a ninja kicking her knees inward and as she crumpled to the floor in agony and astonishment I'd drive the Sebenza upward through her soft throat till it slammed to a stop in her nasal cavity. Then wipe it off on her dress and open the box.

Wow. that felt good.

Peace.

Some people might tell you that you overreacted. . .just a teeny little bit. ;)

It's funny that you ended that violent little post with "Peace".

I have a solution... carry that large Sebenza as well as a really small folder. When she asks you for the knife hand her the small one, hehe...

Sucks man. I had the same problem a few years ago, now I keep my EDC's below 3" to avoid the crazies. :grumpy:

I no longer work, but when I did we used to dress up for Halloween. One year I came in to work with a heavy black overcoat and evil looking black hat sporting (an empty) sniper rifle with a very large scope mounted on top. I know not all of you will not like this, but I can say that no one ever tried to PC over me ever again...

It was pre-911 so I would not suggest it today.
