Lose weight without alot of money for equipment?

Another tip on saving money for equipment. I don't know where you live, but logs and rocks are just odd shaped free weights. Sandbags are cheap and easily attained. Think cheap and heavy.

May not work for you, and most will disagree, but the easiest way for me to cut weight is a steady diet of fatty meat (mmmm, bacon) with cheeses, fruit, and veggies. If I cut out bread and refined sugar I drop weight pretty quick and feel better too. Similar to the Atkins thing I guess. YMMV.

You could alway try doing some exercises that don't involve weights, such as push ups, sit ups/crunches, and squats. If you do 5 reps of 10 in a work out involving all 3 of these you will be sure to feel it. Also remember that technique is way more important than quantity.

Pullups and burpees are great too.

Easy peasy, Balance your carbs and your protein at 2/3 carbs, 1/3 protein. Cut down on the fat. Go for a walk every day for about 40 min. Eat 5 times per day-- 3 meals and 2 snacks, it keeps your metabolism up. Your protein should be about the size of your hand on the 3 main meals. I did it and have lost 25 lbs so far. You can do it too.

This site is pretty handy it also has wee clips to show you how to do nearly all the
exercises so its actually pretty good. Its one I reccomend to all my students.

The power training and cardio exercises are what you will find the best I think.

Once your eating properly and have a routine going things will be much easier.

The hard part is the start :)

The most important thing that I did was change my meal schedule. I quit eating two or sometimes three big meals a day and now I eat 5-7 small meals a day. Some of them are proper meals, some snacks. I also cut out as much greasy 'bag' fast food as possible and all non-diet soft drinks.

I stay active but really don't take great pains to work out except on the weekends and I have lost right at 50 pounds in the last 16 months or so. Went from XXXL shirts to xl/xxl, and 44 pants to 38/40.

My typical day's eating:
- 6am coffee with milk and splenda
- 8:30-9ish coffee with either a banana or yogurt
- 11-11:30ish either a banana or yogurt (whichever I didn't eat earlier) If I am really hungry maybe a pack of poptarts
- 1:30-2ish maybe can of soup (I like the Progresso lite stuff. The roasted Italian veggie is pretty good), or a sandwhich of some sort, or if I am on the road for work then maybe a cheeseburger (no fries). If I bring leftovers from home I try to keep the portions small.
- 3:30-4ish coffee and candy bar or cookies
- 6:30-7ish dinner with the family
- 10ish small bowl of ice cream
If I am up late then maybe a small bowl of cereal with skim milk around 1:30-2ish am also.

I stay a little hungry most of the time, but I get full more quickly now. It makes the people in my office crazy to see me eating all the time and still losing weight.

Eating habit is the key. There are special diets that I recently learned about from my brother in law. He fastened for 30 days, I am not kidding you, he literally ate nothing for a month, drinking water with lemon juice. That sounds crazy, but it worked, he lost over 30 pounds. Now there are specific instructions how to get in to this and how to properly get out without harming your organism. I can find out more on this if you are interested.

I'd recommend walking and/or running and circuit training. Walking is the most natural excersise for the body. It's what we are designed to do. Circuit training is going from 1 excersise to the next withoiut rest until the "circuit" is complete. It developes local muscular endurance as well as cardio fitness for burning calories. This can be done with weights or calistenics.
You could try a search of "The 300 Workout". This was a program designed by a fitness center in Utah that specializes in training movie actors for rolls that require them to have a nice physique. Any search of "circuit training" should also produce valuable info.
Remember to eat plenty of natural foods (non-processed) and drink lots of water for fuel and hydration.

i have read alot of good things here, i have lost fifty pounds of fat in the last ten months. what worked for me is that, i started going for my run(5 miles a day now)before i eat breakfast. working out before you eat, increases you metabolism as well converts your body over to fueling themselves on stored fats. for my meals i have now switched over to what would probably be considered a modified atkins firsiet. now i am by no means a nutritionist, or a body builder, but atkins eliminates all carbs, during the first two to four weeks, not completely, i think you get 15 vegetable carbs, which is not much. but after the first two to four weeks, you add smaller amounts of very healthy carbs. i have been following this modified diet for nine months. the last things i do is, push-ups, sit ups and back arches(the back arches to balence my core)three sets to failure, and then i punch my120lbs bag for half and hour. of all the exercise i do, i enjoy the bag most, when i started i could only swing for 5 minutes before i was gassed.

Great excersise. Especially when the weather outside isn't cooperating.

Good shoes... That's all I'd like to add along with the other great advice. Get yourself fitted with a good pair of shoes with good support and cushioning. The heavier you are the greater chance there is to sustain injury to joints especially the knees. This is especially true if you are planning on doing some running. For runners I love Asics and Muzuno. Don't stinge on shoes... They're way cheaper than knee surgery. Good luck... It's great that you're taking measures to improve your health.

Masteroffajitas, you've gotten some good advice here and I'm sure you know there's more than one way to lose weight. But, there's only one way to keep it off, you've got to make some changes that you can live with, forever.

One additional piece of advice I'm going to give you is TAKE A BEFORE PICTURE, of what you look like now. It should give you all of the incentive you need to stay on any weight loss plan you decide on. When you've reached your goal you can look back on the progress you've made and hopefully inspire you to continue with what got you there.

What works for me is plain oatmeal and black coffee for breakfast. For lunch a salad and then a moderate dinner. I don't eat desert or candy more then once a week. I also drink lots of water and unsweetened iced green tea (homemade). The result is I'm 8 pounds less then what I'm "supposed" to weigh for my height and age.:)

Everything is gradual, and you need to enjoy it. We used to have these ladies always on diets of feast and famine who in starvation mode would rip your head off if you said “good morning”, they would then get despondent and knick your KFC.

Walk up and down your street with a ½ litre bottle of water in each hand. Get your head and body around the idea of a routine. The next week walk a little further, don't push it but take a reasonable distance. These I have replaced with 2kg dumbbells and 1kg ankle weights. ½ way through a walk, when you are warmed up do stretching exercises.

Those cheap exercise tubes with handles work a treat, work on numbers of repetitions. Work up from comfortable 20 move upto a position of doing 50, then make them a bit tighter until you are at a 20repetitions etc.

Food - Never straight eliminate stuff unless you want the fun of cravings and creating a metabolism shock and an over compensation. My morning Mc went to, without chips then to one on a Friday lunch, sugar I reduced the amount until you are happy without it or with a minimal dose. Same goes with fat, first start with leaner meat then smaller amounts. Change to harder to digest starches such as brown rice. Drink water with your food.

The macrobiotic diet has a lot of good angles to it but if you are exercising remember to significantly boost the protein. If you have allergies find what food sensitises you and get rid of it. It reduces bloating. Chocolate is unfortunately my bug bear.

Don't believe the myth that you shouldn't lift weights while you're dieting. In the last year I've lost 60 lbs. I did it with a simple, low-fat 1500 calorie per day diet and sensible excercise - which included a weight lifting regimen. I lifted 3-4 times a week and walked (brisk walk) a couple of miles every afternoon. I'll be 58 this month and I'm much stronger and in better shape now than I was at 35.

A tip on the weights - I use mainly dumbells and machines to get a good overall body workout. And be sensible - don't try to go too heavy on the weights - I don't use any weight I can't pull 12 reps with. Following that rule I Have had zero problems with strains and muscle pulls.

Good Luck!!

Hey, I'm trying to lose weight and my goal is 30 lb by the end of this summer.

I don't really have any money for equipment, except for maybe some weights, and the street.

I was woundering if you had any good sites in mind for me? I'm not looking for ssupplements or magic peanut watermelon diets. Just some sources on alternative ways to work out with equipment.

Are crunches, a few miles of running, weights, and good eating enough?

I'm starting this monday, so let me know. Thanks.

I am in my fifties and lost 30 lbs. by controlling my diet (mainly quantity) and walking 6 to 8 miles a day. It takes two hours per day but it worked for me. I am still at it. There are probably faster ways but that is the one I am using.

I've weighed over 300 pounds for the past 30 years.
Last month I quit eating peanut M&M's and now I'm down to 286. :D
Oh yeah, I didn't mention I ate a 14 ounce bag of M&M's every two days! I just didn't realize how many calories and fat those little buggers had in em! Now that I'm seeing some results, I'm motivated to eat better, ie, less garbage and more good stuff. I still don't exercise other than what I get when I do my wood work. I sure wish they had an adult kick ball league or something like that!! :D
Anyway, the point of all this gibberish is, stay away from candy and food that you eat in front of the tv cause you stuff it down your cake hole and don't pay attention to it. Also, a good way to exercise that don't cost nothing is mow your lawn once a week and if you have an elderly neighbor, mow their lawn for them! Oh yeah, don't use the riding mower!
Good luck with your quest dude!!!!

If you have the patience and willpower, jumping rope is an excellent way to tone up and increase one's metabolism. I say patience and willpower because many have trouble getting started initially, but once the rhythm kicks in, it gets easier to maintain. Very good for dexterity as well.
