Losing your knife

Hell, I lose em left and right.
I lost my blue para 2 just last week...and my sage 1 about 4 months ago. Talk about pissed.

Ouch, that's a rough one... both of those are nice. I've only lost beaters, knock on wood...

I have two Cold Steel Night Force knives, one serrated and one not. I lost the plain edge for the longest time and just found it (Hooray!). Now, guess what? I can't find the serrated one! I haven't seen both of them together for the past three years.

I usually find my knives eventually. I've never lost a super expensive knife and suspect that people who lose their Sebenzas must suffer the pangs of a lost soul. Haven't heard of anyone permanently losing their Sebenzas, though I'm sure it's happened. I'd love to hear their stories. I'm also sure that there have been people who have lost their Sebenzas, then ordered new ones, only to find their first one stuffed away somewhere.

GuinnessSynd told some fascinating stories about being mugged and car jacked. The shortest blade I carry now are 4-inchers, as crime is a huge problem and my state doesn't allow gun permits. I don't think most street punks will argue with someone with a good sized knife, but Police will usually seize your knife if it's used in a questionable confrontation, so prepare to lose it if you use it.

Never had a knife stolen or confiscated, but I've heard of situations where people have had the Police seize their knives if carried illegally. In some places you can carry knives, but if you go inside a government building, you can lose your knife if you go through a metal detector. In some places where carrying knives may be an issue, I carry a 5-inch Maxum el cheapo folder. In the event I have to ditch the knife, I can clean it up and stuff it in some bushes. Then I can come back later and retrieve it. (I had to do that once when I went to a school to vote. I ditched the knife because the school had a metal detector, but the school wasn't using it that day -- probably because it would have constituted voter intimidation. Anyway, I got my knife back with no problem.)

Knives tend to vanish into thin air and reappear in the darndest places. Fortunately I haven't lost anything I really cared about.

I lost the first knife I ever had, about a year ago. It was a Kershaw Packrat that I had gotten from a bandmate. The tip was worn a bit, and it wasn't really sharp, so I asked another friend (fellow drummer who was into knives) to sharpen it for me, and to tell me if it was a good knife. He said it was a solid knife to carry for utility, and I fell in love with that thing.

I brought it with me to a gig where I was asked to drum tech the whole night, and was using it heavily. Some prick guitarist with 18 chains on his pants brushed by me and the clip caught, and it dropped to the floor... I looked as much as I could given the situation, but it never turned up. I was pretty down about it, and got another Packrat to replace it. I've got a couple more in case that happens again, as I assume it may, but that first little Kershaw was my baby.

The only knives I have lost were (good/decently made) Chinese made pieces under 50$. I'm very careful with anything that's more valuable.

Lost the first one in the field. The second one was loaned to a scumbag who failed to return it despite multiple reminders.

Lessons learned are to go with secondary retention out in the boonies (i.e. buttoned pocket flap over the clipped knife), and not to lend knives to anyone who is not a fellow enthusiast.

Everytime I get a Cold Steel knife i lose it to the police.

I lost a Spyderco Police one time while i was throwing it into the fence. On the last throw it went in between the pickets about a 1/4" space. Lost it.

Then found it literally 2 years later. The blade was pitted from rust, but the handle and spine lock were fine (aluminum ???) This was back when they were still using that cheap steel around 1994-1996 when the tips would keep breaking.

j.man...this thread must be good luck. i just found that Vic farmer! i am leaving for a 5 day fishing trip today. and was bummed i wasn't gonna have it. woohoo! i was cleaning out car, and it was between the seat and the center console. thanks for the good ju-ju.

I lost my spyderco stretch zdp-189 after a day of crawling through ceilings at work. Still a little cut up about that one and its been over a year

I just lost my well-loved blue Farmer today! :(:( Must have fallen out of my pocket. It's been a faithful companion for a few years now, not being able to recover it would be a real bummer.

I used both a train and shuttle service to get to work, so I'm hoping some nice soul turns it in if they find it. Better chance with the shuttle service though....

Maybe the tips kept breaking because you were throwing it into the fence.

(checking to see if this is W & C... no...nevermind)

I was at a scout camp for a week and one of the scouts wanted to borrow my little Swiss Army Knife, which I love. But I would rather he borrowed that than a more expensive folder - so I gave it to him. I told the boy, "Do not loose it." Well, he promptly lost it. I had taken an etcher and etched my name and phone number in the scales. The next day at flag formation a scout leader comes up to me and asks "Are you Greg." I said, "Yes." He handed me my knife! If I knew I was not going to ever sell a knife, I think I would etch my name in all the knives I knew were "keepers." Here is the one I lost:

hooray for the keepers! glad you got it back.

I have lost a very few knives (2) (Victorinox spartan, Benchmade Leopard? its been so long I can't remember model exactly) ... I've had more stolen... :( (Victorinox Spartan, CRKT KISS, Kershaw Boa.)

All others were temporarily misplaced :)

I had the pocket clip on my benchmade 580 get hooked on my key lanyard....pulled it out in the middle of a strip mall. I never found it after it hit the ground. I was mad, replaced it with a zt and haven't lost one since.

I put my large sebenza somewhere "I wouldn't forget" where it was......still havent found it.

:grumpy:

When you lose one, replace it immediately with the exact same one. Guaranteed your lost one will turn up!:D--KV

Lost my paramilitary 2 back in may. Worst part is, I lost in my house. It's been two months, and still no sign of it. I'm thinking it may have been thrown away by accident.
