Lost a great Spyderco this weekend

I went out in the Gulf this weekend to go scalloping and ended up losing my Paramilitary 2 in S90V and carbon fiber.

I realized I had the knife in my pocket so I put it in the cooler where it would be safe as I had my Salt 1 for any cutting tasks. I saw my wife cutting a tomato and holding the knife over the edge of the boat. I told her it was very expensive but she kept using it and put it in her lap. I don't know what happened except she started yelling to stop and it was gone.

It's a pretty depressing thing to happen because I have basically carried the knife everyday since I got it and it has quickly become one of my very favorite. And unfortunately I looked on Ebay and they are close to $400 which I can't afford being disabled. She will probably try to buy one for me but she is in school and can't afford it either. I managed to get one even though the 3 stores I preorderd with less than 24 hours after Sal mentioned the knife would be made, didn't come through for one reason or another.

This was just more bad news as I got bad news on Friday about my illness that I have been dealing with for the last 8 years. I guess my health is why I have been feeling worse lately. Hopefully things turn around soon. I think if it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all although this is the first knife I have lost except for one which may have been stolen.

I took the coordinates of the spot but there would be no way to find it in 18 inches of sea grass and probably an acre of ocean bottom between not knowing exactly where it fell and GPS error. Oh well, stuff happens...

Sorry you lost a good knife, man. I usually go fishing with my dad, and I always use a SAK. And If I lost it, it is easily replaced.

What a bummer sorry about the knife. This may be a stupid idea but do they have underwater metal detectors? Maybe you could rent one if they exist and it's not crazy expensive. Obviously it's a fantastic knife, but at least Spyderco keeps coming up with new combinations of current models along with all their new releases. Maybe you'll find one that will fit the bill like the Para did. Hope your health improves...sounds like you're due some good karma.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
I hate the thought I have a couple of Hinderer XM's that just sit around because I would loose my mind if I lost one so I carry a CRKT Full Throttle actually have a couple in case I loose one.

Just a thought but you may want to try and trade for one if you have any gear that you don't need/use.

Good luck

Its a shame that you have to look for a new knife and a new wife at the same time.

Sorry - just a bit of levity.

Losing a knife is a bummer, for sure. Especially one that is spendy and hard to replace. But you will find a new pocket companion and things will start looking up.

And hey, maybe make your wife think its not such a big deal that the knife is gone. I bet she feels way worse about it than you.

Ouch. I feel your pain.

After reading this latest account of yet another knife gone to Davy Jones' Locker, I've decided to take only budget knives out on the water.

I used to lose knives all of the time. Couldn't carry one without misplacing it somewhere. Then I discovered lanyards. Haven't lost one since. :)

The good news, I'm confident you'll find a new Spyderco (or other brand) that's just as nice. Make sure it has a lanyard hole though. ;)

OP, email me. The gray G10 CTS20CP could be a near replacement. I know a place that has one in stock for a lot less than 200.

I know it's not the one you lost, but close.

next thing you know there will be a lot of knifenuts scouring the gulf

sorry to hear that man, i get sick whenever i lose anything. but an S90V para2? man i'd be super pissed.

Would have been much worse to look over and see your knife sitting there and your wife missing... but I digress. Sorry to hear of your health problems; hoping things will turn around for you soon. Good thoughts and best wishes for a speedy improvement!

Best regards! :)

wow, that sucks. If you can go on a quest to find it, you should. You should be able to get a metal ditector or something to look for it. A loss is a loss though no point stressing over it, atleast another knife will be getting some more pocket time. And in my eyes luck is balanced, so if things are sucking right now it just means the future will be awesome. Maybe you will win the lottery or something.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm sure your wife feels bad about it, and you should tell her it's not really a big thing. Yes, it was your favorite knife, but things are just that; things. Nothing is as important as the people we love in our family. Sometimes we obsessed knife knuts tend to loose sight of reality, over material possessions. At least it wasn't your wife who fell overboard or had an accident.

Carl.

That really blows. That's why I buy my wife her own knives. Whenever she asks for the knife in my pocket I ask her where her knife is. I'd be super pissed if my wife lost a knife of mine like that. Next time you head out on the boat tie a lanyard to the knife she's going to use and make sure she throws it around her wrist before she cuts anyhing. I'm sorry to hear about your physical state. Please get well soon. You've gotta stay healthy to hunt down another CF/S90V Para 2. Good luck with everything bud.

man that's terrible. what a great knife too, at least it died in action being used...not that it makes it any easier.

UGH... That is a crappy feeling. I lost a 710 in the gulf a few years back (along with some pricy sunglasses) and i still occasionally play the "what if" game. Wish i had put it somewhere else... Its just stuff though (yes, nice stuff but still just stuff). Youre just paying your dues and making way for something truly great to come along. Be open to it.. Ok, thats enough existential bullshit.
You have plenty of people here that can appreciate the suck!
