Lost in the wild. Which knife?

;)been lost for years according to my kids, so I will go with what is my daily carry.

H&K frame lock, old Leatherman, Spyderco Earth[carried left rear pocket], and my little Gerber box cutter. I omit the box cutter for church. :D

IF I knew I was going to get lost, :o I would have the Wave my wife gave me many years ago.

When I was a youngster, every boy I knew carried at least one knife, and most two or more. Knives were what we played with during recess.

The Best knife to have when you get lost in the Wild is the one you have on you when you got Lost.

Nobody plans on getting lost, but you can plan ahead by carrying the best with you when you travel or hit the woods.

BTW I like the Buck 110 as a good heavy all round knife and the best bang for the buck (money).IMHO

Exactly what I thought when I saw the title of the thread. I always carry my Leatherman wave (don't rmember exactly what the wife paid for it when it first came out, but have seen them on e-bay for under $50.
If that is not allowed the other choice would be my SAK tinker .

It is no longer produced. However in order to meet your price criteria I would take my Camillus maufactured double lockback boy scout knife. The size of a buck 110 with a saw blade to boot. Gresat knife for the price.

I think the sort of knife you carry is a overvalued discussion.
As the biggest part of survival is just the will to make it out of there, the question which 50 dollar knife you got on your belt or in your pocket has no importance.
If you have any experience or knowledge on survival even a piece of flint or a broken bottle becomes useful and will serve you as well.

Many backpackers carry multitools or just a small swissarmy knifes because of their versatility.
I can't understand why all so called survivalblades have to be 4'' and more, just because you have to split trees or break cars.
The best survivalknife is the one you carry all day because when it goes wrong its with you.

For me it would be a locking SAK (and some sort of fixed blade) because i wont leave home without it.

But we're at bladeforums where rationality isn't a point in choosing a knife. Otherwise everybody would simply carry a mora or an opinel :D

Under $50 and not a fixed blade?

If I'm allowed a multitool, it would be a Leatherman Core. If not, I would choose a Buck 110.

Damn.. Under fifty and a folder. Probably a Tenacious or Boker MType. It'd come down to those two.

Vic Rucksak (if multi's are allowed) Gotta love that saw

For a single blade, Buck 110 would be good.

Rucksak SAK, it has a big blade (for a sak) and saw. Actualy my key chain has a mag bar, blaze orange fox 40 whistle and a rucksack hanging on it. The odds of my getting lost in the bush (I'm on the southern edge of the northern boreal forest) are fairly slim but it could happen. I know, life happens..., so I still have my basics with me everywhere. This is my "always with me" set up. Any time I intend on bush whacking I bring apropriate toys along. The key chain set up is for that unplanned percentage.

After careful consideration, I would opt for a traded Giant

Vital statistics:
Width 8.75 inches
Weight Weight 2 pounds 11oz
Wenger Giant @ Hennie

A folder under $50??? My first response would be a Leatherman, but if it has to be just a knife I would go with any Spyderco Salt.
