...it was my own stupid fault. Left it in my carry-on bag.

Looking for ideas re. a replacement/ alternatives - I welcome your thoughts....

Thanks,

Ben

How much you wanna spend? I think the Horseman is about the perfect all around knife. I would just say get another horseman, or Emerson in general.

I would have skipped the flight and walked where I was going...with my knife.

Were you running behind for your flight? They should've given you they option to go and place it in your checked luggage. I've done this many times, once I had my bk2 in my pack from a recent trip and completely forgot about it...after several minutes of explaining and assuring them I wasn't trying to intentionally carry it on I was allowed to place it in my checked bags.

Thanks for the replies guys...

Riley12, I tend to agree with you that for me the Horseman covered most of my preferences for a folder and a real user. Never completely fell in love with the way it looks so I guess I am considering alternatives before I buy a replacement.

Sonnydaze, no option of walking from the USA to South East Asia ;). The swim part could have proved challenging!!!

Hey Bobby3326, no option was given and no, I wasn't running late for the flight. Flying out of Terminal C, Logan. I guess, my reaction said it all when the pulled it out and I realised that I had left it in my bag... If the option to go back and check it into my bag I would have taken it in a heart beat. That Emerson and I had history (nothing heroic, just time and regular world use).

Thanks again for the input...

Ben

No man gets left behind. Go back and get that knife. Demand it. They knew what they had thats why you were given no option to check it. @$@$/@; this really pisses me off. @&$?&$

The airport says it all, Logan is ridiculously strict...The company I work for is based out in south Easton ma and I've flown in and out of that airport many times. The last time they confiscated a butane lighter I've had in my bag for over 100 flights. I'm guessing maybe the international flight might've been the reason for not being able to go back and check it...probably already been thru customs at that point.

Thanks Constant Gardener - I see you're feeling my pain. I did part with asking that "it goes to a good home", knowing that somebody was going to pocket a really nice 'new' pocket knife :( That said, I don't want to raise your blood pressure any more. It was my own fault for forgetting. I travel Internationally a lot (over 30 trips last year - set to exceed that this year) so it isn't like I don't know the rules and on the upside, no-one seemed to infer that I was some kind of nut job aiming to perform some kind of horrible act.

Cheers,

Ben

whp - I already have a CQC-10. Might have to put that back in my pocket for a while. I preferred the slimmer carry (think knife 'height' and how that affects pocket space) of the Horseman.

Sosa, I kind of like your idea of escalation re. sizes ;) However, my aforementioned comment about pocket carry rather puts your suggestion (and powernoodle's support of it) on the back-burner by way of a replacement EDC. (Not that I mentioned it's role as EDC - sorry!)

JeremiahWeaver09, thanks for the suggestion. Closest I have had to the Police was a Spyderco Calypso (the limited run version with tan scales). I really wanted to love it but it's proportions just didn't work out for me. I see the Police as somewhat similar. Still really great knives. I'll take a trip to check one out in person next chance I get...

Thanks all for the input...

OP, I would have stepped out of line with it. Giving you no option to try to keep it is theft. Logan has a post office/shipping agent there, you could have mailed it home.

Or....if it wasn't pocketed by an unscrupulous one, then you can always try to buy it back (only half serious there). TSA auctions off all the stuff they confiscate (Totally serious).

Bet if it was a SAK they would've let you mail it to yourself. As far as a replacement, every serious user needs a CQC8 in their rotation. I'd replace it, an OD green scale would be sweet IMO.

This probably made it even more impossible, but that's the case even for domestic flights. Once your bags are checked in and on their way, there's no way that the agent at passenger screening can retrieve them from whereve they are in the airport at this point (indeed, possibly by now in an area governed by international treaties), allowing you to repack at the checkpoint and monopolizing the attention of at least one agent. I mean, they're understaffed as it is, with only so many people available for the essential duty of confiscating people's nail clippers and chuckling at naked pictures of you. If you had a SASE with you, though, they should have absolutely let you drop it in the mailbox and send it home to safety.

As for what to buy as a replacement, what everyone else said—did you like what you had? Then buy another one, or use this as an excuse to upgrade.

You don't do it at the security check point, you must go back to the ticketing counter then request your bags be pulled to add a carry on prohibited item you forgot. Providing you've allowed yourself ample time and didn't get to the airport 45 minutes prior to departure and your bags are already loaded on the plane. If so then they will pull your bags you add said item and re check em and go on your way.

Trust me I travel for a living, well over 200 flights this year alone, and within the past 8 years I'd guess atleast 2,000 which is probably low.

How many of these were international flights?

I lost an Emerson Super CQC-8 once, and it fell out of my recliner months later. I was sick when I lost it.
