edit: I'm thrilled to announce that my plan worked! After losing it last week, looking around everywhere, asking at the gym, my squadron, the dining hall where I ate with my family, tearing apart my house, I gave up and started this post about losing the knife. Today while I was flying someone left it on my desk! :) Life is f*cking awesome!

Best I can figure, I took it out of my pocket to cut up my kids lunch and set it on the tray. It got covered by a napkin or something, and my wife didn't notice the weight when she picked up the tray and threw everything in the trash. Unfortunately, since its usually kept the bottom leg pocket of my flight suit and bangs against my boot I didn't notice the lack of weight. And since I didn't wear that flight suit the next two days it was a while before I noticed it was gone and went to look for it.

Stupid stupid stupid. Hard to keep track of things when you have two little kids running around.

Ouch, I'm sorry about that one.

I've only lost 1, and it was a $50 Kershaw. An XM-18, words can't explain :(

Wow that sucks man. I have a real bad habit of using a knife and setting it down where I am working, unsheathed or in the open position. Then I walk away and wonder wtf did I do with that knife, but I always rediscover them a few minutes or hours later. I've yet to permanently lose one though. I don't know what I would do if I lost a more expensive knife :(

Sucks that it will end up in a landfill. If it was misplaced somewhere at least someone else might be able to appreciate it.

There's only so much money I'm willing to spend on a knife. Stuff happens to them. Lost a few over the years one way or another.

Condolences on your loss.

That's probably one of the biggest reasons I'll never own a high dollar knife. In order to appreciate it, you have to use it, which then opens up the risk of the possibility of losing it. Oh hell no!!! :D

Sorry for your loss. I lost my reg. seb for 11 months. I kind of know what you're going thru.:(

Dropped a brand new small regular Sebenza into a lake while riding a jet ski. I feel your pain. Life goes on and we learn from our mishaps. Best to you, and don't be afraid to start carrying a nice folder again. I wasn't. Started toting another of the same the very next day and have never looked back.

Professor.

I feel your pain. I lost my first XM18 too just a few weeks after having bought it. I dropped it in the snow this winter and couldn't find it. I might go back this summer to see if it melted out yet and bring a metal detector along with me to help with the search. Good thing I have an XM24 on its way to replace it!

wow, that's a big loss. i feel for you. Hinderer's aren't cheap or easy to replace. i couldn't personally afford to lose something that nice, and that's why i don't own anything over 200 bucks or so. a 100 buck knife would make me weep. hope good luck comes around for you and you make it back up on something else.

I doubt I'd ever lose a knife (I'm pretty good about constantly checking my pockets) but because the possibility exists, I'd never spend more than I can afford to lose on one! Just me though!

Oh dude, I feel your pain. I can only imagine how sick you are. Two years ago I lost a Surefire E1B and I was despondent for days. But a Hinderer? Ouch!

Ouch. Sorry for your loss.

Speaking as someone with two little ones running around, I'd check all their little cubbies, stashes, and secret hiding places before writing it off. I don't know how many times I've thought I lost something (never a cherished knife, thank goodness,) and discovered it days or weeks later when playing with the girls. Best of luck.

How much do those go for these days?
