Lost my first expensive knife: XM-18

Same with a similar high end knife, left it on a lawn chair at a hotel pool, but luckily realized I misplaced it 10 minutes later and it was still there. That won't happen again. XM-18s are expensive and hard to come by. What will you buy now to replace it?

I feel for you, to me loosing a knife is a big deal. But seeing as you are on here I'm sure you have another in pocket, and the knife can eventually be replaced. I am not one of those that thinks I cannot replace the knife so don't carry it. My knives are for me to use, if I lose one then a different one can take it's place! The only truly non-replaceable knives are the ones with sentimental memories, and I carry those too! You never know when you will come home to an emptied house and your collection is reduced to what you have on you!

Best of luck replacing it with another dream knife!

Sorry for your loss. Hopefully it won't happen again in the future.

As for me, I am very anal about my belongings. When I'm done using a knife it slips right back into my pocket. I just cannot afford to lose things.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Yeah it stucks, but such is life. But as a friend of mine pointed out at least it is replaceable (if not cheap).

That's probably one of the biggest reasons I'll never own a high dollar knife. In order to appreciate it, you have to use it, which then opens up the risk of the possibility of losing it. Oh hell no!!!

And I refuse to have safe queens, so you gotta use them. The XM-18 is a great knife, well worth the money in my opinion, and it just has to be used. And yes that risk losing/breaking/staining the knife, that's what they're there for. :)

Drop me a line at rob@rickhindererknives.com if you want to purchase a replacement direct.

Thanks Rob, I'm in negotiations with the wife, I'll send you an email. :)

Why would you wear a small seb. while riding a jet ski?

That I wouldn't do, but I do carry a nice pocket knife as an EDC around the office, when I fly (AWACS, very exciting), wander around, etc. I used it for what I often use it for, cutting up my kids food (local resturaunts always have chopsticks, usually spoons and forks, rarely knives). This time I was just an idiot and set it down on the table to use again rather then put it back in my pocket.

Keep looking , I thought I lost a case 3185cv last month. just found it yesterday right under my computer!!

You will never find it if you are looking for it! Can't find it until you have given up all hope and already purchased a replacement. Then it somehow drops in your lap. LOL.

I'm thrilled to announce that my plan worked! After losing it last week, looking around everywhere, asking at the gym, my squadron, the dining hall where I ate with my family, tearing apart my house, I gave up and started this post about losing the knife. Today while I was flying someone left it on my desk! :) Life is f*cking awesome!

I've carried a knife in that pocket for 10+ years now, never had one fall out before now. I will move it to one that zips up, which will be a bit more irritating to get to, but so much better then going through this again.

THAT'S AWESOME! Any idea of who found it and knew it was yours? It sounds like it must have fallen out somewhere where you are know to be regularly.
It will be cool to find the person who found it and let them know just how happy they made you by not keeping it for themselves. Between that person and myself, that makes two honest people that I know of so far...

Why would you wear a small seb. while riding a jet ski?

Because I am but a man. A man who is so used to carrying a pocketknife that he's too stupid to know when not to carry one. :)

Like I said, live and learn.

Congrats on finding your knife, btw!

Professor.
