Lost pocket knife PANIC

Been there, done that but when that happened the knife was no where to be found. :(

It was a Kershaw Shallot my one and only carry knife at the time and is still one of my all time favorites.

Paid about $75 for it at a gun show back in the 90's which was a lot of $ then and the most I had ever paid for a knife before.

It had a loose clip and it was NOT the 1st time that it slipped out of my pockert. Should have known better and done something about it but never did.

Have no idea where I lost it (over 20 years ago) like I have no idea where I lost my driver's license much more recently.

In any event, I made up for the loss and now have 6 variations of the Shallot in my collection. ;)

PS: I just broke my all timre record for losing something -- a Hinderer kubuton pen that I bought for $80 just 2 weeks ago. Have no idea where it slipped out of my pocket but I can't find it in all the "usual places" and assume that it's lost for good. Am NOT going to buy another.

What a "tool" (meaning me)!

Walk in the door, Hang up my coat, goto bedroom change pants... WAIT WHERES MY KNIFE??
I took it this morning, right? Check where it would be if i didn't ... its not there.
I definitely brought it with me... WHY did i bring it, i wasn't going to need it.

Retrace my steps
I went to a store and walked around for an hour. I would of heard it fall, right?
Go back and look? Surely it would be gone.
When i got home i changed oil in 2 cars so it could be on the ground in the driveway?
No, I would of seen it picking up tools. Check anyway.... it's not there.
Maybe it fell out in a car? Doubt it... Check both cars... NOPE
Now what? check my pants again? Yep .... still not there

Where can i look? My coat? Sure... i didn't put it in there but i'll just check all the pockets anyway..... NOPE!~ WTF WHERE IS IT?!?!

Slam my coat back on the hook and bam something hits the floor.
NOW THAT'S WHAT I SHOULD HEAR WHEN I DROP MY KNIFE.. . THERE IT IS!

I guess the clip got transferred to my coat from my pocket and was holding on.
I've had glimpses of this phenomenon when other knives fell on the floor when i took my coat off sometimes. Something about the short pocket clip and this pocket position slightly below the right front pocket on my pants. Something new to look out for
Glad you found it. Laughed out loud reading your story. You described me to a tee not long ago when I lost my 940-1 except I forgot that I had placed it in my coat pocket. What a sick feeling followed by a calming relief.

The best is when you are looking everywhere for something for 10+ minutes only to realize it's in your hand!

I walked around the house the other day with nephews in tow looking for my glasses. I'm nearly blind without them. They were on my head. I had put them there to use my cell.

I can totally relate to this.

I'm a plumber by trade and I often clip a knife in my back pocket at work. It's gotten clipped and temporarily lost multiple times. I've always been able to retrace my steps and find it.

I'm at a large industrial site right now, so I don't clip a knife in my back pocket for this reason. Somewhere between 100-200 guys onsite it could easily be gone if lost.

Glad you found your knife. I hate that feeling.

I had a Buck Crosslock when they first released rhe model. The first liner lock i had ever seen?

I lost that knife 30+ times. It always made its way back to me. Once, I lost it walking in the snow. Found it a day later. Another time I lost it in the snow while riding a mountain bike.

A person I had never met, walked up to me and said "I found this the other day, and remembered seeing it in your pocket"...

I'm still looking for my very first "real" knife that I bought in college :( - Benchmade Vex.
Lost it fairly recently (about 2 months ago), and I'm crushed when I see my knife collection without it.
The thing is I'm about 90% sure it's somewhere in my house... I just don't know where. One day, I'll find it again..

Either way, the OP's situation is all too relatable. Glad you were eventually able to find it, especially after having already looked where you ended up finding it.

Never ever throw out an upholstered chair or couch without taking it apart.

I usually flip it over in the driveway and start slicing the fabric, then remove all the foam, then disassemble the wood parts, from the metal frames.

I do this to put the textiles in the trash, burn the wood, and scrap the metal. Which saves the disposal fee.

Back on point, the missing stuff you find is amazing. Tv remotes, cel phones, knives money. Etc.

I do this too. Mostly because I'm too cheap to haul stuff to the dump or pay someone to haul it. Here in San Diego we have these large trash containers provided by the waste management companies, and they hold a lot of stuff, if I cut it up small enough.

I cut up a sofa bed once. Some of the wood I saved and used to build a packing crate for something I needed to ship, and I used some of the flat steel bars from the frame to build a cargo rack for one of my bikes.

It took a few weeks to get rid of what was left by putting it out in the trash. I had to cut the mattress into three sections, using a serrated knife to cut the fabric and padding, and bolt cutters to cut up the internal spring assembly.

The only things I found were a thumb drive that my sister had lost years earlier during a visit, paperclips, a button, and some pennies.

You too on the Crosslock?! If you look in the lost knife heartbreak thread you can see my tale of loss there. Too funny, that it is the same model.

The ex had in her mind that I wasn't moving out quick enough and had graciously helped me by taking my collection to work dumpster, that was emptied way before I arrived.
Sick to stomach isn't even enough to say how I felt.

many many years ago when I was broke and working in landscaping I had a cheapo knife that was my user and I was quite attached to it because back then $25 was a lot for a knife for me....was mowing this huge field we're talking like 5+ football fields big and you had to run the zero turn fast so it rattled the hell out of you....in fact hard enough to rattle your knife right out of your pocket...knew it was gone in that huge field somewhere...next time we went out there I scanned that field like a hawk with every pass and wouldn't you know it I actually found the knife!!!! it was faded by the sun and rusted to hell and back....still have it just because

No trolling here. Would you like to see my GoFundMe that was started at that time? I didn't ask for sympathy, just contributing to discussion.
How long do I need to be a member for to be homeless? I'm legitimately in my truck as I type and will take current photos of my filled to capacity cab and full bed, if it will give you a more warm and fuzzy feeling.
I will say though, the knife community seems to separate themselves from other knife people if their situation doesn't conform to their liking. Thanks though for making light of my situation, again, I never asked for a handout just sharing with other discussions.
I'm very sorry for your circumstances. My love of knives didn't want to believe it to be true. Box of knives in a dumpster is a crying shame.

I know the feeling, the panicked crazy feeling.
Bits to story - I made a good living, shy of 100k for last few years I worked. Started collecting but only actually touched a few knives. I've been disabled for last three years and the insignificant other couldn't deal with it, so I had to move in a short time frame, with no income. With that all being said...
I had just a few more boxes to move out into my enclosed trailer. Upon returning the next day around 10am to move rest out, I didn't see my knives boxes, two of them. The ex had in her mind that I wasn't out quick enough and had graciously helped me by taking my collection to work dumpster, that was emptied way before I arrived.
Sick to stomach isn't even enough to say how I felt. This was beginning of October 2020. I lost EVERYTHING in one fell swoop, homeless AND knifeless! Nothing like trying to survive in Northern Michigan woods, without a single blade to bushcraft with.
Glad those of you that "lost" your knives, eventually found them and those never found, may they rest in peace or rust as it may be.
The first mistake was to move out of your home any divorce lawyer will tell you that
