So, what do you love to do outdoors and what do you hate to do when you are outdoors?

Me, I love making that fire, from the construction of a good keyhole with rocks and whatnot to the making of it and tending to it. Late, late into the night, fresh, hot coffee and the dark (hopefully) very chilly air. There is nothing quite like that.

Watching someone learn something new and seeing the smile on their face and their eyes lighting up. You can almost see the lightbulb come on over their head if you look close enough.

I like rocks, I like sitting up on rocks over high places and just enjoying the view.

The hates...

Man, leaving. There is nothing worse than having to pack up and leave some place you have called home for a couple weeks, a few days or even a really good night.

And...the turding. This is not an anal retentive thing, I just hate using a one-holer, there is nothing worse than putting a Cleveland Steamer down there and it's like early NASA splace flights, SPLASHDOWN! :D

I'm much more at home with a secluded area with a shovel and a roll of Scott.

How about YOU? :D

Love: the peace of being in nature, regardless of the activity. I can even feel at peace on a busy outdoor shooting range.

Hate: Ticks.

Love: I enjoy a very long stretch of smooth pavement with lots of curves and hills to bike on, or a nice piece of single track. (and it is even better when I can drop my friends on the ride)

Hate: What knife knife use, what knife to use.

“Hell is other people”.

I love just about everything about the outdoors save for other people. [Clearly that excludes members of one's own cohort]. It includes the sounds of their wailing children or the yellin' at their dog that won't play ball, the visual noise of their garish garments, the smells they produce, the topics the want to talk about [the weather, or the worst one ever, the misnomer that is 'sheeple friendly'. RANT = sheeple friendly is at best contributory negligence and at worst aiding and abetting a cretinous meme].

i love staring at trees - there's something real peaceful and calming about looking at them. even during winter when there's no leaves on them.

yeah, i hate chiggers - i used to deal with them better when i was a kid but nowadays if i get them bad they really drive me nuts.

Love:

Fishing. I can pound a stretch of water all day and not care if I hook up. Of course its better if I do but it still beats the concrete jungle if I don't.

Birds. Always been a fan of birds of prey. I usually lose track of everything when watching 'em in flight.

Hate:

Michigan. I can no longer stand the winters and the lack of outdoor, out-of-the-way places. There is no "road less traveled" or "off the beaten path" in Southern MI.

I agree with this but you left out the three that I think are the worst:
1 - let's play the radio too loud all day and late into the night
2 - we need to run the generator 24 hours a day
3 - why walk there if we can ride a four-wheeler?

Love: Getting away from the difficulties of civilization (its very relaxing), lighting/mainiting fires, sitting around a fire watching the coals burns (I find this relaxing also), eating as nothing tastes better than hot dogs over a fire after a full day of hiking and carrying a pack.

Hate: Other campers (no offense guys, its just ruins the peacefulness of it), bugs that bite, cold nights

I love nature , peaceful feeling ,getting away from work..
I hate Gnats,mosquito's,ticks/chiggers/ants....other than that a bad day outdoors is better than being at work period !

Love: Lying in a tent, in my sleeping bag, listening to the rain or the wind or the birds.
Hate: Having to crawl out of my warm sleeping bag in the middle of the night to cut a whizz. Especially if its cold out.

Love: being there, sitting around a camp-fire with friends, being able to see the stars at night,...
Hate: Not having the time or money to be there more often.

Ditto on crawling out of a warm sleeping bag. My first solution was to do it quick w/o adding any clothing other than something to protect your feet. You get colder getting dressed for the event than from just getting it over with. Worked for awhile. Now I just keep a whizz bottle handy and never leave the bag 'til morning. :D

Love: the gear. the knives, the top of the line - state of the art bags and filters, and whatevers. I love handy shit.

Hate: the gear. I hate that I want that gear. Give me a ferro rod and a knife. (until the latest, coolest something or another catches my eye).

I 2nd that crawling out of the sleepingbag line. Man, that stinks to do in the night.

That and chigers and ticks are good responses.

Leaving. Packing up always stinks.

Litter. I hate running into trash while I'm out. Though, Les always finds a use for it.

I love everything about the (real) wilderness but the fact that it is so far from me right now.
Sometimes I run into some people that annoy me, but the further out you go the less likely it is. The absolute worst is when other people choose to camp really close to you when there is room to spread out.

Hate strangers, seeing other people out in the bush kills it, makes me feel like I'm just in a city park.

Love: rain at night while in a good dry tent; fishing and relaxing during the day; breathtaking views at every turn
Hate: Thunderstorms when above tree line or in a tent with all my metal around me :-( Driving/hiking 8-plus hours to get to a favorite backcountry camp spot to find it taken already; Campgrounds - unless they are empty and it's a base camp (nice to have water and restrooms half way through a week adventure in the desert...)

I love pretty much everything about being in the outdoors, but my favorite thing to do is tracking a good buck and getting within bow range, even if I'm not armed or hunting. Nope, I do not allow the buck or whatever critter it is, to know that I'm there. Not into harrassing them, only sharpening my skills without tipping them off.

What do I hate? Well, I hate leaving for sure, but more than that, I hate seeing other humans. Especially if they aren't taking care of what GOD gave us to enjoy.
