Love & Hate

Love- Being out there. I hope to live on a mountain in Colorado or Wyoming some day.
hate- Leaving

Hate:

Michigan. I can no longer stand the winters and the lack of outdoor, out-of-the-way places. There is no "road less traveled" or "off the beaten path" in Southern MI.

And people wonder why I dropped out of college and moved to Colorado. :D

The lack of sunlight did it for me.

My loves far outweigh the hates. So listing the bad is easier.

Other people, I try to avoid them.

Wind. Insanely strong winds irritate me.

I believe in travelling light in the outdoors, but I always carried a plastic toilet seat as well as a roll of paper in my pack.
Fixed fold-out legs on the seat.
Hate?
Boom-boxes and loud people....kids in particular.

Love: being outdoors and listening to nature, campfires, whittleing a stick, fishing, hunting, sitting on a log, napping

Hate: Being outdoors and listening to other people or machines, finding trash, biting insects especially chiggers(got some bites right now), leaving,

Love the sights and sounds of nature, seeing wildlife, wondering up creek or stream, starting up a fire on a brisk night is hard to beat, the more primitively the better!

Hate running into obnoxious people, also hate ticks, yellow jackets, hornets, poisonous snakes, poison ivy,oak sumac and the like which are good at ruining a good day.

Oh yea I hate bees, hornets, wasps, yellow jackets and anything that is similiar. If you want to see a man run screaming like a little girl, watch me when I piss off a nest.

For me the 'love' is contemplating a fire late at night in the pitch darkness knowing I'm the only human for a long way in every direction.
The 'hate' would have to be the alarm clock because of what it means.

Love - Making a fire and just watching it while toasting marshmallows and sausages.

Hate - *during car camping* The people who choose to camp next to me when there is a whole park for you. They love to stay up late yapping away and squealing with laughter. Running their generators so the kids can rough it while watching cartoons.
THE WORST I've ever experienced is the guy who rather not bother collecting drywood off the ground but wake me at 1am with his chainsaw so he can keep feeding his fire.

Love:
Sitting beside a crystal clear creek amongst tall timber watching the world go by.

Hate:
One mozzie that you can't seem to locate in your tent but you can hear the little shit.
People that go bush ill prepared, then turn to you for stuff cause you've got it. Then they say that why should they bring <insert whatever> CLEARLY they don't need to, you have!

There's sharing and there's stupidity. I'm usually happy to share but there's a point.

The Good-Laying on top of your sleeping bag on only a ground cloth and watching a clear night sky with my girls and wife. Picking out the satellites and constellations, maybe if we're lucky near a small waterfall. Cooking fresh caught Trout by the riverside in a cast iron pan. Watching my godsons discover new bugs. Seeing my 12 year old daughter re-handle a mouse hawk, in the field. Watching my oldest daughter sketch wildlife, very well. Seeing my wifes smile that only comes when she is away from civilization and work, and sipping her strong, black cowboy coffee on a chilly morning in the woods.

Th Bad-Trash left in nature from ignorant or lazy assholes.

Th Ugly-The first boombox toting or sideways hat wearing dipdunk dipshit I see after a fine time in the wilderness.

I love pulling off my wet socks/jungle boots at night and putting my feet in warm dry socks.
I hate putting yesterdays wet socks and boots back on the in the morning.

I love my hat
I hate my hair so I just cut it off (#2 buzz cut)

I love that after three days in the bush I loose all sense that I'm "outside".
I hate coming back "inside".

I love sleeping in good weather with just a bivy on the ground.
I hate it when I misjudge the weather.

I love taking digital photos.
I hate the little scream my camera makes when the batteries run out mid-trip

I love my knives
I love your knives
Love is a good thing.
