Love my Sage 5, do I 'need' a Chaparral?

I know I don't really need one but after getting the Sage 5 and absolutely loving pretty much everything about it I still feel like I could use a slightly smaller knife for situations where people might be uncomfortable with a blade even the size of the Sage.

Somebody mentioned trying to cut steak with their Chaparral and ironically last night I was at a wedding reception and all they had were butter knives for the filet. Unfortunately this steak was prepared more medium well then the way I would like it (shame) and as I watched everybody saw away at theirs with their butter knives I decided to pull out my two day old Sage 5 and easily sliced through my cut of meat. Just thought I'd mention that little story, anyway I feel like the size of the blade is still a little big for around the office, does anyone regret owning both?

I carry chaparral in the office. Cts xhp is awesome. The way it's shaped and rides low in pocket is very low key and comfy to put your hand in the pocket. The shape of the blade is not very threatening. When you are in town you can have a small traditional with you for when your don't want to take out the sage.

Chaparral is a better EDC if you're looking for a thinner/slicier blade and overall more compact, slimmer, narrower and thinner.

Fit and finish is awesome on mine.

There's like zero space between blade and scales.

I had to do a bit of my own justice to it, cuz its me, and take it apart and it's perfect.

Yeah the CTS seems like a great steel. I haven't used my Recon 1 much but when I was researching it it sounded good. Nice video, compliments to whoever made it - pretty dexterous handling!

Yeah I think it might fit the (office) EDC bill even better than the Sage 5. Very nice and compact. I don't regret buying the Sage because it's just so damn nice as well and is better suited for certain situations but I think the Chap might have been the better fit for me. Got a few things for sale on EBay that when I sell them will make me feel better about buying a Chap after already buying a Zome Delica and Sage in the same month! I think the Chap purchase is inevitable. I'm on a roll I guess.

Chaparral 1 CF is priced right at $117.57 but also consider the brand new Chaparral 4 Raffir Noble which has a beautiful (looks better in person) composite scale handle for $119.97 and weighs slightly less at 2.3 ounces. The one caveat of the Raffir Noble scales is that they get scratched fairly easily so best to carry it in a pocket without any keys, metals, etc. You can see my Chaparral Raffir Noble in the last picture.

Very beautiful indeed. Maybe too pretty for me to use without worrying about it, maybe... One thing I keep seeing about the Chap is people complaining about the lock and it being especially hard to press. I don't have a girly hands or anything but I assume that not all of these guys are just wimps, is it really an issue?

I have Chaparral. It's a great knife. The lock release is like any other lockback imo.

I carry both, the Sage for every day use,and the Chaparral for when we go out and about, ie offices, restaurants etc.
The lock is no problem at all.

Chaparral CF is more worry-free but Chaparral Raffir Noble looks classier. None look as classy or gorgeous as the Stepped Titanium albeit at a hefty price of $339! The milling on the titanium is the best I've seen. A work of functional art.

No issues with opening Chaparral one-handed. You just can't flick it open with ease. It's small and you can close it one-handed but easier two-handed.

Do you need a Chaparral? Absolutely. Always room on the shelf or in the drawer for a Chappy. Superb small EDC.

Makes a great companion to a larger folder also

A favorite pair to carry for the holidays

And I thought the Sage was a small office friendly blade. Maybe it depends on how sensitive your office personnel is!
Seriously, a quarter inch difference in blade length probably makes more of a difference in the user s mind than in the minds of observers. If the user doesn't t treat their blade as a big deal, neither will surrounding people. There are always exceptions for "nuts".

I like back locks, but I like compression locks better.

I have both, and love both. First bought the Sage and couldn't see anything replacing it as my office EDC. Got a great deal on the Chappy and haven't carried the Sage since. Still treasure it, but the Chappy is just about perfect for me. Non-obtrusive and smooth as silk. Even picked up the Raffir for 'fancier" occasions.

I want the Raffir, but I'm worried about it getting scratched with regular use. I'll probably get the CF first and the Raffir eventually.

The Sage 5 is pretty office friendly but maybe it's the additional width of the blade as well. I feel like it's still a decent amount of metal to pull out, but like you said I think how the user presents it plays a very important factor.
