love my sar 4's,,what do you think??

Jerry,

You are a MASTER at "Causing" confusion... and you know it.

You probably just got caught up in your own confusion for a moment.

-----------

I can see where a lot of people like the SAR4.
While I personally think the handle is too large and heavy, it does offer a nice feel and versatility. I still don't like the non-functioning choil - and I don't expect I will ever like that type of choil. - sorry.
I am also not sure I am big on the jimping treatment and the cut-out scales.

The blade shape is decent enough, but for a multi-function task/chore type blade, I MUCH prefer a dropped point to semi-spear pointed blade shape more along the lines of the SHBA, AD, and recent S5.

However, the NM treatment feels and looks nice, the scales (outside of the jimping cut-out) are VERY nice looking, and the satin blades are ALWAYS nicer looking.

Pros and cons, but bottom line, I am not a fan of the SAR4. - To each their own.

-----------

But, if you want us to mention other SAR options,

I do , LOVE the SARSquatch - right out of the box! About the only thing I would have changed would have been to eliminate the swedge grind. And that is not a significant issue for me as is.

And the SAR5 is VERY nice to me. Simple and pure function. The SAR5 just needs some butt reduction therapy and a bit of shaping treatment and it will be a winner.

.

haa?????????? whats a sar8?????? come on jerry,,if its real gotta show some pics!!!! i cant believe all the protos youve come up with,,must be a very busy man.....anyway,, pics of this sar 8 please!!!!!

Sounds great!

Whatever it is, I hope it's got the SarSquatch handle and no swedge.

I must admit that the SAR 4 has given me something of a plus and minus headache. The first minus was that I would have held off from an LE if I had known there were to be Double Cut versions....and having gotton the LE I could'nt justify the overall loss on duty taxes etc to pick up a D/C one. However....for food prep work you cannot get better than a satin finish....and as some mates who are Gurkha's say...they would'nt have a painted or beadblasted khukri....they much prefer their satin finishes....although glare is a potential problem for me. However....I can always beadblast the LE if need be.

The knife however is definately summed up with the expression "big little knife"....the handle enables a rear hold which vastly improves it's chopping ability for a 5 inch blade. In many ways it now has me thinking which knives should I now pass on and sell. I did a home satin job on a Skinny Ash for a back up knife and for food prep and deer larder work....the SAR4 though does this job just as well....and holds it's own with my other larger 6 inch blades such as my Jackhammer, SJTAC variant and my 3b2. The 3b2 is safe as the paintjob on this one is ideal for me as a back up military knife where glare would be a problem. The competition finish on the Jackhammer really avoids glare as well and has the added advantage of not having paint which will rough up over time. The SJTAC is needing to be bead blasted and competes I suppose with the SAR4. Balance wise though I think I prefer the SJTAC feel to the SAR4 because it is a bit "butt heavy" although you cannot have this both ways....if it were not for the handle design you could'nt choke back on the grip and chop so well....and it is probably a better chopper than the SJTAC, Jackhammer or 3b2.

I think though it is the "butt heavy" aspect which might be causing a number of these to come up on the exchange....for me I am still deliberating what to do....sell it on or keep it?

The other side of the equation is that if I want to carry a compact chopper I much prefer the SFNO LE.
