Love the Scout Knife

Kutmaster. I've always thought of these as quintessential American knives. Where did the scout pattern originate?

Leghog,

My understanding is that the US style camp knife is a merger of the European (Victorinox and other) multi blade Army (and Farmer) knives which were bare head patterns at first and the American equal end (cigar) cattle knife pattern.

I would love to learn more about any 4 blade knives that preceded the original Victorinox SAK, if such a thing exists. Would also love to learn who first put the basic 4 blades in an American style equal end frame.

Ok, I want to join in.
What can you guys tell me about my new, old Pal?

Still have my Ulster Scout knife my Dad gave me in 1964. :thumbup:
...

Very cool, Bob. :cool::thumbup:
I wasn't in Scouts, but my first knife (and basically my only pocketknife until a little over a year ago) was a Colonial Forest-Master I got from my parents around 1960. Still gets used for the occasional job; in this case, not a job for a Boy Scout. :D

Thanks Gary. I cleaned it up last year. It's still in very good shape with strong springs and a good edge with very minimal blade loss. I'm surprised how well many of the Scout knives held up over the years. We all know that as youngsters, we weren't exactly gentle with these pocket wonders. I still give mine pocket time every now and again. It's a very comforting thing to carry in a nostalgic way, but very useful at the same time. :thumbup:
