Greetings BFs:

I just got back a run of 10 Loveless dropped hunters. capers, and New York Specials from Paul Bos HT, most of which are spoken for. This knife was ordered by a customer who has since backed out, so I'm putting it up for sale on BF at the price I quoted. I normally put green liners on Desert Ironwood - red just doesn't show up as well, and I get a lot of positive feedback from my customers when I use this color with DI. $285 delivered, ConUS, insured. First I'll take it or PM gets it. Please Paypal under the personal tab or add 3.5% to the total (which is what Paypal charges me) to tksteingass@frontier.com

Lifetime (mine) common sense guarantee and free sharpening.

Best regards,

TK

TK, you really have been working hard ! Everyone of these knives looks excellent. The CPM S30V at Rc 60-62 should be able to field dress a number of deer before a 'touch-up' is needed. If a guy wanted to buy just 1 hunting knife and use it for as long as he hunts, this knife would be it.
I'm really looking forward to receiving mine which is quite similar to this one. Both are very 'clean' and handsome knives.
My sincere thanks for all the effort and skill that you put into everyone of these.

Some people think that S30V has a higher incidence of micro chipping if the edge is very thinly ground. Do you think this is so ? And what thickness do you grind to just above the edge in this pattern with this steel ?

Roland:

Thanks for the kind words on my knives. These are just one man's thoughts on the matter.

I usually grind to .020"-.025" prior to sharpening for my hunters. I aspire to Bob Dozier's philosophy that if you want to cut, you grind thin. Regarding micro-chipping, S-30V has excellent edge holding properties - hence it makes a great hunter or fighter, not a chopper. Any steel will chip or deform if the edge geometry is incorrect for the application and there's not enough "meat" behind the edge. So, no matter what the steel is that I use, I grind a thin edge for cutting on my hunters, a medium edge on my fighters, a fat, convex edge for chopping on my camp knives, and a small secondary bevel on my scandi grinds.

Thanks TK. From the specs on knives i own, i'd say 0.02" is thin enough to slice well but not ultra thin ( i have one S30V blade that's 0.008) so as to be delicate and 'unsafe' around bone.
Hunting season is only 2 months away (around here at least), so i'm surprised a hunter has not jumped on this one yet.
With the added feature of the bolster/guard, it's an excellent deal, and even more so because stainless fittings are a definite upgrade from brass.
