if it was my old lab spot under the teeth I would have gone in there even with a knife and a heavy coat. Gun would be highly preferred but if I knew it could not be had within a minute or so I would wade in.
I would be scared to hell but I have bled 200 hogs an hour on the line and got really good at cutting the arteries from the inside of the neck without having to cut the external muscle structures. Had an old phillipine wwII veteran (Maxxie) train me for that task, a very skilled knifeman and tough as hell for a wiry little old bastid.
The v notch above the breastbone at the bottom of the neck is your target, it takes practice as you have to reach/extend the tip as you pull out in a semi-circle. When you get it right it shoots down your forearm running off your elbow in rivulets.
NOTHING BUT RESPECT FOR THE RCMP, my sister inlaw, sister and husband are all on the force. That being said I have less for some of the municipal police, RCMP washouts
and former high school jocks looking for power and an adrenaline rush in some cases.
RCMP are very well trained and evaluated closely for behavioural/psychological tendencies that are overlooked or sometimes wanted with municipal police(FAR LESS TRAINING), depends on the mayor/voter/political climate of the day. Just IMOP
