"Lukewarm" to blade upgrade

If it passed Buck's Quality Control, it must be within their limits, right???

Beggars can't be choosers...this was probably all they had...

You be the judge...

Trax,
I have a number of 110's with S30V steel and I've noticed that they are all about 1/8" shorter that the regular 420HC ones I have. For the life of me I can't figure out why, unless it's just one big coincidence.

So you're saying that Buck sells damaged S30V blades as "upgrades" over brand-new 420HC blades??? Or maybe used warranty-replaced blades are sent back out as "upgrades"???

I was just thinking out loud (which is often dangerous).

When you put it that way, it sounds a lot worse than what I was thinking, but obviously the implication is there.

I should not have written it as I have no reason or evidence to suspect anything like that.

My BG-42/560 is also 3 5/8"...as is my Custom Shoppe/navajoprincess2b 110...(polished blade)...

Some more food for thought...I wonder what happened to those skilled assembly line workers who stayed behind in San Diego???

 ...My 3 BG-42 110's measure 3.696, 3.724, 3.675...My 3 S30V 110's measure 3.775 (DP) , 3.766 (DP) , and 3.665 (CP)...Seems they all deviate to the left side of the bell curve if 3.750 is the target. The drop points all appear to take to the hand grinding operations with less loss...Possibly due to their laser program being set at a different target on the drop points vs clip points...Would be neat to see what they are before the E2K is put on and the final edge is finished...There must be a GO/NOGO gage for that final inspection...Found another BG-42 (CP) at 3.650....

My three week old 110 blade is 1/16" shy of 3/4. BUT, the handle length is 1/16th over 4 7/8", so I'm good! :D

I'm not sure why the s30v blades are shorter. I know we don't use repaired blades for our upgrades. I will check with the shop and see what explanation they have. The high end steels are cut on our laser and 420hc blades are still cut on the fineblank. The tolerances we get from the blanking process are within a few thousandths if I remember right. We need that kind of accuracy in order for everything to go together right.

Will be interesting to hear the results Joe. Tell the team that they can't slip anything past the BuckKnuts.
