i was not prepared for the snow or ice as i had not done this trail in a while.

the trail is approximately 7 kilometers up to norman falls.

the trail structure is linear and requires approximately 3-4 hours to complete (this leaves plenty of time for snacks, lunch and photos).

i wish i had my winter equipment with me, should of had crampons, gaiters and hiking poles as well as water proof gloves.

still made it up though slipping and sliding my way. there is alot of ice on the northern sections of the trail past the 1.7km mark.

past the 2.5km mark there was approximately 4-5 feet of snow on each side of me with a narrow path in the middle. i had to put one foot infront of the other inorder to pass some sections of the trail.

i'll redo this trail this weekend and make it to norman falls/seymour connector. will through some photos up again later.

cheers

Wow great pics! I am seriously jonsing to hike near some water. That looks like the perfect area.

in the summer its a great place to relax.

you can take a dip in the glacier cold water. theres also alot of picnic areas just on the waters edge.

if ya ever make ur way up from cal to bc its a nice place to hike

cheers

Very nice, I love when it's the beginning of the melt and there isn't so much snow around, makes it easier to get around and the days are warmer whilst still enjoying a nice view..

thanks cuphead

i actually enjoy hiking in all weather conditions and seasons.

but definetly that time of year when the snow just starts to melt is a real beauty

cheers

excellent pics

looks like a very nice area.

good sign there (do you have these things with you?). the trails that i have been to aren't as well marked or informative.

One of my all time favorite hiking spots jca21 ! Thanks for posting the pics.
About the only thing I miss about leaving 'the city' is the NS Mtns...glad I've got Mt Elphi as a backyard now though.

IIRC you can also connect to it via the top of the Grouse skyride, same trail that goes to Goat and Dam Mtns ? (It's been a while - I don't recall the any signage at the mill site)

yes sir i believe you can although i havent tackled that section of the trail yet. the weather conditions have resulted in closure of the trails past norman falls so wont be able to do it for a while.

thanks for the comments.

cheers

jca,

Cool pics. I've been hiking the last couple weeks despite the snow, just couldn't be indoors anymore, your pics make me wanna grab my pack....

That looks a real cool place bro !

I'm heading to the mainland next week, staying at Horseshoe bay, how far is that park from there, any idea ?

if ya feel the need to hike then ya should!

cheers

pitdog: google maps puts it at approximately 23 minute drive from horse shoe bay to lynn canyon park. driving distance is listed as 22.7km

should be about 30-40 minute drive from horse shoe bay i believe.

there are picnic tables located near the waters edge for you to have a nice lunch at.

there is also shorter loops which you can take.

the alice lake look trail should take you approximately 30-45minutes if your a bit quick on your feet.

cheers mate
