I'm still very much a knife newbie but have heard some negative comments regarding Cold Steel and Mr. Thompson. What exactly is it that he has done or said to inspire this negativity?
If you can provide links to his statements or the articles that you are using for reference it would be much appreciated.
Thank You.

You are very much a newbie (welcome aboard! :) ) and this is a common topic that some of us are tired of seeing overdone. Since it's more an evaluation of the man and only somewhat of his company and rarely of the knives themselves, I am moving this to FEEDBACK fom the General Knife Discussion.

One Get Out of Jail Free card to anyone who posts links to some of the "better" previous threads for this gentleman's entertainment. :D

Shawn B. and SPXTrader....you're toooooo slooooooooow. :p

The get out jail free card is MINE!

Oh yeah, the one from tomahawk23 is a classic. They don't make these trolls anymore nowadays...:D Thanks SPX!

The only thing I have against Lynn Thompson is that he hunts game for sport. I have nothing against hunting when the meat is going to be used, but to kill an animal for the sheer thrill of it and then post photos in a knife catalog ticks me off.

One of my college professors wrote: "I never could see why a man should be imbued with a blood-thirsty desire to kill and destroy animal life. I have known men—and they still exist among us—who enjoy what is, to them, the 'sport' of hunting birds.... I think it is wicked for men to thirst in their souls to kill almost everything which possesses animal life. It is wrong, and I have been surprised at prominent men whom I have seen whose very souls seemed to be athirst for the shedding of animal blood. They go off hunting deer, antelope, elk, anything they can find, and what for? Just for the fun of it."

My uncle did it for years and it always offended me. If Thompson has to do it, he should keep it out of his catalogs, at least in my opinion.

Lynn Thompson runs a marketing company, and he is very good at doing things that cause people to remember his name and the name of his company.

Pretty much all hunting these days is for sport. I know all of mine is. The fact that I'm going to use every single piece of meat that I possibly can doesn't change the fact that it's done for the sport of the activity, not the acquisition of meat in most cases. When you consider what it costs to go hunting today it's generally always going to cost FAR more than buying the same amount of meat from a butcher. It's primitive, it's atavistic, and it's fun. Don't get me wrong, I do it ethically and make sure all that can be used is used, but it's for the hunt, not the meat.

But LT can come across as an ass at times. He does plenty of good things, but the one time I met him at a gun show he rubbed me the wrong way. YMMV.

I think the bottom line is wasting food. It's just wrong. Sure you can go to the store and buy meat for less than it would cost to hunt, but if you went to the butcher and bought meat just to throw in the garbage that would be just as bad.

if he complies with the law as far as the hunting goes i dont have any problems with that, down here in TX we shoot feral hogs all the time and a lotta the time they go un-eaten and we do it because hogs are nothing but a pest, so although i dont care for lynn at all him hunting doesnt bother me, at all.

i eat sea kittens too lol.

Did you miss the part where he stated he eats the meat?

Anyone who eats meat should hunt, kill, and butcher at least one animal. Preferably they should cook at least one cut over an open flame and eat it as well.

The United States, one of the few countries in the world were its poor can afford to have someone else butcher their meat for them.
