M1 Garand and Becker BK7

Awesome! The cmp furniture looks great and your SA looks like it's in great shape . Service grade? Thanks for posting !

MArathonman:
Thank you. The stock took a lot of work. The finish was very rough with sanding marks cross-grain. sanded it smooth, applied cherry stain, and applied boiled linseed oil.

It is a service grade. We live near the north store and it helps when you can pick your own out. I understand the selection is even better at the south store. TE is 2.0, MW is 1.0.
For the non-Garand guys here, those are measurements of the barrel wear. Those numbers represent basically a new barrel.

Rifles and knives. Good combination!

As great as these things are — and they are enough to make me drool like a fool, and turn green with envy — we need to remember to throw some Becker stuff in here, too.:D

P.S. If Ethan sees these things, who knows what might happen. He's a shooter, too, so this thread could go on forever.

If you look closely, there was actually a Campanion in my first two shots. (Okay, so it was overshadowed a wee bit by the big honkin rifle.) Granted MArathonman did a better job as his first photo was mainly about walnut.

So, in a feeble attempt to redirect this M1/Becker thread back toward the Becker side, here is a shot of my favorite Becker in its new home. With family of course.

I wasn’t saying don’t show the rifles, Bridgeman, I just want to make sure we don’t drift too far away from Beckerland. You might notice that I participate, too.

I think the M-1’s are great, and I love the walnut scales in Marathonman’s shot, too. I also like the way you’ve used the codura sheath for your BK-2, and the way you’ve used the pouch.

Sure, there are some Becker related items in the thread, and that’s a good thing. I just didn’t want it to drift so far away from those things that this became a firearms only thread. We’re fairly loose on this forum, and have a lot of fun because we’re not quite as ridged as some other forums (Lord knows I’m as lose as anyone else, and tend to drift a little myself), and I think we all like it like that.

I’m not trying to be a grinch, by any means: I just want to make sure that we throw in some Becker related stuff from time to time.:D

I’m not trying to be a grinch,

don't fret buddy, i didn't take it that way at all. i did however want to give a better look at the knife that i pictured with the rifle. it is my favorite, although as you can see it still has WAY too much of the black coating still on it!

i have rambled on and on so much about how i want a cordura sheath, but i never showed how i finally made it work without spending $50 on an aftermarket sheath.

so, two birds, one stone! (more rifles at a later date!)

Well of course the BK-2 is your favorite. Anyone with an ounce of sense... oops. Just because it's my favorite doesn't mean that everyone feels that way.

I like how you've used the BK-7 sheath for the BK-2: that's an innovative repurposing. For the field, I prefer kydex, myself, and I think I want to get my hands on one of the new ones when they're available. Oh, and my BK-2 has even more black on it than yours: it's been re-painted a couple of times. I may just strip it one of these days, just for the change.

Don't get the idea that I was putting down the rifles: I wasn't. I grew up in the Marine Corps, with a dad who got me started at a very early age with an old '03 Springfield. I've loved firearms since I was knee-high to a stacking swivel.

I think I saw that one with the original cast. Didn't have anything as cool as a Becker, back then. I did have a KA-BAR and a squirt gun, though.

The M-14, and later the M-16, were the companions of choice, back then. I loved the M-14 (M1A), but I'm really glad I never had to carry one. I hated the M-16, and wouldn't carry one, period.

Okay, you, me, and MArathonman need to start a new thread! Lot's of rifle pics. Yes, the M14 is THE rifle, period! It remains in use today and I believe will be until something better comes along. But, for the record, John Garand was a genius. Once the bugs were worked out, there was nothing to equal the firepower and reliability of the M1. The M14 took it a step further. And then we went way backward with the M-16.

I want a Magnum Camp knife soon please. :D

Oh, I think this thread is fine for rifle pics, since it's already started. I can't post any, because I don't own any long guns anymore. Had to sell them because of a financial emergency a few years back, and now I can't afford to replace them.

John Garand was a genius, second, perhaps, only to John Moses Browning.

The M-1 was an outstanding rifle, probably the finest of its day. It had only a few — very few — flaws. The M-14, an "updated" M-1, may have been the finest battle rifle ever produced, IMHO.

The M-16 — at least in my day — was a piece of junk that got a lot of good men killed. Yes, yes, I know that they later corrected a lot of the flaws and made it a better rifle, but too late for a lot of guys. I was fortunate to be with a group who were allowed to carry pretty much whatever we wanted, and what we wanted was not the M-16. I managed to avoid it for nine years, thankfully. I've never fired the new ones, but I understand that they're a lot better.

By all accounts, the Magnum Camp should be released by the end of the month. There are a lot of people waiting on that one, including me.

Me too! By the way, Bladite thinks he is getting numbers 000-999. shhhhh, the jokes on him. I've sent secret subliminal messages to Toooj... They are going to start with number 1001. lol...

Rifles, I have one of each variety. The R-15 is a blast to shoot, but the cost of ammo has gone through the roof. Now we shoot 30-06 or .22. The 30-06 through CMP is still just $0.50 per round. .223 has gone up to $0.75. I'd rather take my Garand to the range any day.

Pistols, yes, John Browning was the other genius. The Model 1911 .45 ACP and the Hi-Power being two examples.

I only shoot .22 nowadays, since it's all I can afford. I'd love to be able to take a Garand to the range, too, but I just can't afford it. Living on a pension of less than $700 per month doesn't leave a lot of room for having fun.

Mr. Browning's pistols, most notably the M1911A1 and the Hi-Power are both outstanding. I had a P35 Hi-Power for many, many years, and I still miss it. He designed several other pistols as well, but let's not forget shotguns and machine guns. One of his machine guns, the .50 cal. M2 — the "Ma Deuce" — is still going strong to this day. That's why I would still rank JMB above John Garand. Geniuses both, but I have to give the edge to JMB.

im partial to the FAL as well and my brute compliments it nicely. kinda like a jungle duo . i sure do love the m14s though. beckers love .308!!!

Miss a minute, miss a lot! There have been about 20 posts since I last logged onto this thread!

To summarize :

o +1 M1 Garands
o +1 M14 (never shot one though)
o +1 1911 (I have two)
o +1 1903 Springfield
o +1 JMB's other inventions - BAR, 1919 .30 Cal and M2 Ma Deuce .50 Cal

o +2 my BKT, BK7 and BK2 Train Wrecker!

I guess that about sums it up for me.

while i have long guns in 223s and 308s, i prefer shooting my 22 the most

though i'm looking forward to 22wmr pistol/rifle combo at some point in the coming year.

liking these classy shots of clean M1s and such. never wanted one, but i do now...

mmm...

Ethan likes guns too ;)

The older I get, the more I like 22's. I only have one 9mm left, but I hardly ever fire it anymore. My absolute favorite nowadays is my Ruger 22/45 with a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel. Cheap to shoot, incredibly reliable, super accurate, and quiet, too. What more could you ask?

I used to have a Ruger revolver in 22 wmr. It was a really fun thing to shoot, and packs a pretty good wollop, too. When you get one, you'll love it: it's a great caliber.

It's too bad you live so far away. We could go bust some caps.
