M390 blade steel folders

Spyderco Carbon Fiber & M390 Military C36CFM390P?

At 4.2 ounces it weighs about the same as my G10 version which is great. My Military Titanium C36TIP is kind of stout at 5.9 ounces.

I was bored one day and made this frankenmillie...

Carpenter CTS-204p, Duratech 20CV are both very similar in composition to Bohler Uddeholm's M390.

So if the non-Bohler brand versions are in, that opens up knives like the Southard flipper or PM2 in CTS-204p, for example.

Nice.

That Spyderco Brad Southard flipper C156GBN is my favorite Spyderco that I have. Nice to know that the blade steel of blade steel CTS 204P is similar to M390.

Any folders made with 20CV?

Thanks.

M390 is a good steel, but there are so many good steels any more, that I wouldn't worry about just one. Read Ankerson's list and some of his knife-steel cutting tests on rope and cardboard. Lots of good YouTube videos that he has done. It can be just as important to get the proper heat-treat...

No doubt. I was just curious to see what was out there.

Searched for a list of folders with a single M390 blade steel in this forum but none could be found. There has to be a lot more than the following and from more manufacturers?

Zero Tolerance:
  • 0801CF
  • 0350M390
  • 0777M390

Benchmade:
  • 7505
  • 707-1201
  • 586
  • 480-1
  • 581
  • 755 MPR
  • 710-1
  • 710DLC-1

Note: The Kershaw Volt 3600 used a composite blade of Bohler M390 Powder Steel for the cutting edge and CPM D2 Tool steel for the blade spine.

I think I could double the Benchmades you've listed that use M390. Benchmade is going crazy with that stuff. Pretty soon it will be their only option. :)

M390 is great. I love my M390 Gunhammer. I would like to get one of Darrel's full customs with Chad Nichols stainless damascus/M390 san mai.

So, let me see if I have all the Benchmade M390 blade folders and if not what am I missing?

There were 805 and 806 BMs in M390, too. I think they may have both been 80*-1101, but that's going purely on memory and you know how that goes... :o

Should also have 710-2, 730-1201, and a run of the 556 whose model number I can't recall at the moment.

JNewell, I know the 806s were 806-1101 and 806BK-1101; not sure about the 805. MCM would know if he's around.

Not sure if you're counting gold class stuff, but the 730-101 that you mentioned before used M390, too.

Maybe (probably?) more.... I'm no expert, haha.

For Spyderco with M390 blade just two?

  • Military C36CFM390P
  • Paramilitary 2 C81GPBL2
