Ordered one the other day because I missed the preorder. Just got it in today and man is it nice. Opens very smoothly, no blade play and perfect blade centering. Excellent F&F overall.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure glad I pulled the trigger on this one.

Received the Military today, everything about it is Perfect, from fit to finish to balance, Perfect. Thanks Again for the heads, sometimes it's just meant to be.

Where is this available?

The initial preorder ended long ago, and they shipped in February. These 59 more came up for sale from the dealer last week, probably people who backed out of their preorder, but they sold out pretty quickly. Your only chance now is to pick it up second hand.

Got mine in today. Really nice knife. It felt a little gritty when I got it, but disassembling, cleaning, and lubing made it perfect. Doing that also made the lock go from relatively quiet to a loud thwock. Someone said they miss the loud locking sound; try that.

edit: note that disassembly voids Spyderco's warranty

What I'm really liking about this one is the weight, it's very light yet feels solid for its size, awesome.

Tripped over this thread in time to place an order for one, and I gotta thank the OP for the heads up.

I've been casually looking at Spyderco knives for years, but never bothered to get any...until now. This one is my first Spyderco and I must say that I'm rather surprised and impressed with it. Dead center seating, early and solid lockup that is easy to disengage when closing, sharp with decent grind bevels, no vertical or horizontal play... Great, just what I need...to like yet another company's knives! :grumpy: ;):D

Anyway, glad I chose to give this one a chance! :) Oh yeah...it's definitely gonna get carried & used.

Thanks for the pic Alex!

I've been carrying a BG42 carbon fiber Military on most days for a while now. For a knife of it's size it's a breeze to carry at only 4oz. Handle offer's many options, and the great amount of distal taper in the 4" blade makes it an awesome cutter. I think you'll like it a lot.
I haven't carried my M390 yet, but may give my BG42 a rest soon.

Ken! How's it going, brother? :) Hope to see you at BLADE, man.

Yep, this folder will definitely cut. ;) Almost cut me already when I followed kreole's lead... he posted about taking it apart to fix the slightly gritty action...but managed to keep my fingers whole, LOL. Got it cleaned up and now it's very nice 'n' smooth opening...been playing with it since and I really like this sucker.

Glad you got it the way you want and still have all of your digits:p I'll send you a PM about Blade:thumbup:

:D Glad you're whole still! Love the pic, too. At first it looked like you turned it into a zero grind. That would be a nasty cutter.

I should've mentioned I took the whole side of the handle off so as not to fight the liner. For liners and frames, I always put the female side of the pivot through the non-locking side so that after cleaning I can stack the blade and washers on the pivot, then just screw the locking side on top of it all and be done. I get too annoyed trying to hold down the liner plus keep the blade in place, all the while trying to line up correctly the flat spot of the pivot and push it through....Don't have enough hands and brains to accomplish that

I got mine in yesterday, and it feels amazing, though I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I'm a little worried about taking it apart - the screws in the handles are T6, right? Has anyone had trouble with them stripping? (I don't really plan on taking it apart, just curious in case the need should ever arise.)

Here's a pic, too - though I feel I didn't really do it justice. Just some Spyderco M390 enjoying the sun!

Don't even ask about the Mule handles. I shudder at the actions of a younger and more foolish me.

No trouble with stripping. They do use blue loctite, but mine were easy to take off. I pressed down hard when I first broke the loctite just in case, which I'd recommend to be safe. Keep in mind Spyderco's warranty is technically voided by taking it apart.

Sizes are t6 for the handle and t15 on the pivot.

I actually like those handles. The black and gray layers are nice, and it looks comfortable.

Nah, it's sharp enough as it is...for now. ;) Thanks for your compliment on my pic, and here's another. :)

Having never disassembled, let alone owned one, I was extremely careful taking this one apart. Took the screws out and used the lanyard tube as a pivot to keep the handle as one piece while wiping it all down before re-lubing. The lanyard tube was being stubborn, so I decided to not force it apart. Put it all back together and it's smooth as glass. Does have a bit more of that "clack factor" too, as you said. :D

...Oops, I voided the warranty? Well, hopefully, I'll never need it. I know that I didn't hurt it, so that's good. It did need to have the grit removed. :)

Did anyone notice the change in date code from the first batch (AL) to BL for this shipment?
