So Ive opened my box and behold the M43.

Its an amazing Blade!

But........But I think its too big for my needs, I think a 15" would be plenty big for me.

So before I post anything else whats the rules on here regarding selling/ trading?

thanks

Chef

I received my M43 yesterday chef, I agree that it's a massive blade. Good for chopping, no doubt, I've yet to take it for a test drive. I thought my 15" ASTK was big, this thing's a monster. In a good, overkill kinda way though.:)

The M43 is one serious khuk. Like Cpl said try it out first, you might be very surprised at how it handles. Here is a pic of mine.

Yes it's a Master Kami Bura M-43:D:D

The only issue is if I use it whos going to want to buy it?

I have handled knives long enough to know if Its "right" or not for me and I would have more control with a smaller blade, When I say smaller I mean 13-15"

Its not a blade issue its a user issue.

Until you get one of these in your hands you will not really be able to tell anything.

As I said amazing blade but just not for me.

Chef, what do you see using this knife for? A straight Khukuri might not be the best fit for you. I'm thinking something lighter with a thinner blade profile might be better suited for you. Still in the HI family but not an all out chopper.

I was thinking more of a light chopper but something I could Use for bushcraft/camping/hiking that kind of thing, with this I could clear a path through thick jungle but here in the Prairies jungles a few and far between.

I agree a lighter thinner blade would be better and until you handle one its hard to say which is the right one.

Having handled this one I cant see me packing this with my pack as I would have a hip injury from the extra weight lol

smaller, thinner, lighter.

My apologies to everyone on this site Im not trying to insult this blade as its amazing but as in the kitchen its the right tool for the job.
I wonder if on the pictures for the DOTD its possible to get something we all know for a size comparision when taking the pictures? like a CD just so its easier to get a feel for the sizing?

Thanks

Email Auntie and explain your concerns. Perhaps you can return this M-43 for something more to your liking. It is always advisable to have a tape measure, yardstick or the like present when you are browsing DOTD's, most people don't realise how large an 18" khukuri is until they get it in their hands and say OMG!
We always recommend that newcomers spend some time looking around, that they let us know what they will use the khukuri for and their physical stature, so that we may match them to a proper khukuri more easily. It is also why i usually recommend the 15" khukuri as an all around packable length. Not too small to do a days work and no so large you feel like you're carrying a sword.

I suspect that you would really like a 15" ASTK, Chef, and that would be my recommendation for you.

I did actually state in my e-mail before buying the main uses I wanted, light chopping/bushcraft/camping etc
I will contact her and see if I can trade it.

Thanks

Do you have a picture of an ASTK I can look at?

Chef

chef-I've received khuks that I ordered that didn't feel like they belonged in my hand, contacted Yangdu about it and shipped it back. She wants you to be happy with what you get. For prairie use, thinner vegetation, and light chopping I think that a Tamang would work well. The thinner blade will go through lighter vegetation better, although it will take you longer to chop through a 3" piece of wood. As I stated earlier, the slimmer profile blades will offer you somewhat of a balance between the two: should be able to take out most lighter vegetation and be able to chop when needed. A 15" Chitlangi, Chainpuri or Sirupati may fit your bill. Whatever strikes your fancy, take some time with the Search and read about it. You'll get an idea of what others thought of it.

I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for and look forward to your impressions of your next HI blade.

It does sound like you are more looking for a Tamang to me though...

Yangdu has offered me a replacement TYVM

Its a 16" Chirwua Ang Khola

I have no idea what this blade is either.

Anyone have pictures or information regarding this blade?

Im still thinking a 13-15" would suit me better, but let me know your thoughts

Thank you

I sold it unfortunately, recently. As a rule though, CAK's and heavy duty choppers and tend to be fairly heavy blades.

So what would fit these requirements

Light chopper
Bushcraft
Camping
Hiking

13-15"

Thinner blade
Lighter

Is there such a Kukri?

Honestly, I really think you are after a TAMANG....

Which is a sort of knife/khukuri blend.

Let me shoot you a picture of just one of mine instead of all three like all the pix I currently have now...
