I wish I woulda snagged one !

they're still out there. snag away :)

soon, SOON, i'll have some time, and do a hi-rez photo of each mach-ax with their unique sheaths in the collection, and post those for posterity as well.

Ok,
I'm a little in the dark on this one.
With the blade angle in comparison to the handle the way it is, the dummy question of the hour is:
What would the normal use for a machax be?

about the same as a Khukri... choppering! slashing!

cooking stew, deboning elk, field stripping toyotas... things like that.

also, it makes a mean MEAN drawknife. apparently [self]bow makers LOVE this knife, and there's a small cult following.

this is one of the knives that camillus WILL be making yes? YES?

imagine, a MachAx in ... SanMai.

*drool*

Mornin Fellas, fun thread to read. I think it needs to be bigger. If the BK9 is 9", then the Machaxe should be 12". Otherwise they are too close in size and ability. IMO I've never used one, though.

Amazing old prototype: http://www.fightingknives.info/Default.aspx?tabid=728

'''This is an original Becker Machax prototype knife, made by Blackjack in Effingham, Illinois. As you know, Blackjack closed their factory in Effingham in 1997. This prototype knife has a 9-3/8" non-reflective blade that is marked on the left side: Prototype and has a stout black leather sheath that appears to be a standard production one. Both knife and sheath are in mint condition and both have numbered labels (# 72088) attached. This knife is discussed in a letter dated Sept. 17, 2002, by Mike Stewart, Past President of Blackjack. Here are some exerpts from that letter...Thank you for sending me the Beckers to play with! They are all ones we made at Blackjack, in Effingham. As you know, we made the knives designed by Ethan Becker from 1992 until we closed Blackjack in 1997. Ethan designs are tough! They ain't pretty, they don't have a lot of slick finish, but they're tough. And they work very well; I always claimed that Ethan's knives could be used to detail-strip a 54 Buick! I've used your numbers, and commented on each one...No.220: Becker Machax This one is marked: Prototype. It was the first one off the Effingham tooling. We only made about 750 Becker Machaxes, in the total life of the project. They were made of 52-100 steel; the design was made to work like a kukri, in chopping, but with a straight blade, offset from the handle, instead of a curved blade like a kukri. Ethan Becker had made a few of these Machaxes before we took on the project; he used 4140 steel in the ones he'd made.'''

Someone needs to invite DOC CANADA to this thread.
He's got the most-used Machax I've ever seen.
