All the machete talk and build offs. Should be a Custom build off making a machete. I think. 10-14 inch blade that is flexiable like a reg. mechete

BRING IT! That would be uber-cool. Is it harder to heat treat custom machetes though? Those long blades probably won't fit in most maker's furnaces. I think that's why you almost never see custom machetes around here.

Well big choppers anyway. I figure if someone optimizes for machete tasks and someone optimizes for hacking hooves off then good enough. These are the kinds of thing I'm thinking of - all from one Czech bloke. I guess with one submission each he'd just have to press the button on one and gamble away with what the tests were.

I hope we can convince Mr Farmer to get in on this.

I would LOVE to see this!!! I agree with Mr. Wilson, though, that many folks may be excluded from participating since their HT furnaces wouldn't be long enough. I hope we get to see a lot of stiff competition!

I'll play. I like choppers....

I thought that might be your reaction!

Do we need to twist Dr Bill and MNeedham's arms to do the testing?

My forge can't handle over 15 inches. Not so much the forge as the quench tank. Maybe call it a "large camp knife" or "small machete" build off.

Good choices. Joezilla and TonyM would also be good choices. Maybe have a visual for the folks on the forum to vote and a cutting competition.

Sounds like fun.

I would say that Horn Dog would be my choice... he has done a lot of machete testing. Pict would be my choice too, but he is currently in Brazil.

Who are the "local" makers that make this type of blade. I see that Gossman has a Golok that he is making. Siegle of course. Atakach has made some absolutely sick long blades recently. Who else. Does Magnussen make a long blade?

I would like to do some of the testing. My advice would be to have two testers so that we can get separate opinions of the same tool

Horn Dog and Joe for sure.

I think Mneedham is another solid choice! Every time I see his name I think big ugly chopping knife :D

Thanks for the nod David, but I am a lover of small fixed blades. The only large knife I own other than a couple of cheap Machetes is your Dangerous Curves Golok jr. I really don't see the need in anyother;)

Oh, yeah. My bad: I'd forgotten that Mneedham was a lover of these big, bad boys, too (as so many of us are, of course).
