Any combination of Tony, Vic, Dr. Bill and Joe is gonna be a good thing (Bearthedog is has really been out of circulation lately, hasn't he..) . I appreciate my name being kicked in there, but truth is that I'm long on liking big choppers and hitting things, and short on writing good technical reviews of blades. I hope we can entice a couple of folks to make the blades now.......
Who are the "local" makers that make this type of blade. I see that Gossman has a Golok that he is making. Siegle of course. Atakach has made some absolutely sick long blades recently. Who else. Does Magnussen make a long blade?![]()
Ok, Here s what I'll do if you guys are into it. I'll get the machetes and do a quick video review of them. I'm pretty pressed for time getting ready for the wedding/shot/ etc, and I feel that I would not be able to give them the literary time needed to convey a good written review of each one, especially after looking at all the work Brian did for the camp article. I'll then send them to HornDog or whomever ya'll choose for a much more detailed review. They can then do the intensive review of everything.
Some criteria that I'll ramble off just to start:
Handle Comfort: Will it cause blisters, will it become loose over time? Are the rivets set in the handle close enough to the end to prevent flexing.
Edge retention: is the edge ground to thin on the tool? Will it break, bend, or curl in hard material
Taper/Balance: Is the balance on the machete good to go, or is it too heavy to use all day, too light to do North American work.
etc
I can quench up to a 32" long blade...... so yes
