just saw this, has it been decided wether or not this is a go, and what the specs are?? everyone using the same steel?

if its ok with everyone id like to join in

come on! I'd say the more the merrier.

Question..... When do we want to finish by? I have a few I need to get ready by Christmas, some other makers may, too.

I am going to find a longer quench tank this week. ( mine is good for only up to 15 in blades, and that depends on the "style" blade).

Lets see those drawings, glued handles, etc!

Cannot wait to get home, Who knows I might make on myself and enter.

No modding a manufactured machete :P You'll have to dig up that 24 inch piece of bar stock you have lying around.

If I enter it will be a custom. Not even sure I can make one. I think you guys should stick to a reg machete thickness. Custom machete not custom chopper

As far as I know it's a go, but I don't think a distinct finish date has been set yet, what with the holidays and all. :)

Rule Thread
Machete specs: 12" to 28" long blade, capable of what the maker thinks a machete is used for.

Dead line: February 15th -this way it gets you through the holidays.

All Machetes will be returned to the makers, but they must provide and pay for a return shipping label. (that stuff would get expensive for us!)

GO!

anyone got any Frankenstein pictures yet?

As stated on the other thread I have decided to attempt an entry into this Challenge. I want to be up front, I am taking is on as a learning experience and a way to have my blades tested in the real world by non-biased testers... I am a Complete NOOB, I have never made a Machete or Blade longer than 8" before. Sooo mcjhrobinson you should definitely join in.

Here is my WIP report...

Now comes the scary part for me the HT!!! After seeking advice from a few Respected makers here my plans are to HT to 1500+ °F and then Quench in Canola Oil (that is the only Quenchant I have at this time). Then Temper 2X @ 400 °F for 2 Hrs. in my Kitchen Oven (Yes it barely Fits)... Any advice is greatly appreciated at this point.

Ryan that is looking fantastic. You should be mighty proud!
