Since Rat Cutlery doesn't make a machete (yet) , what is a good brand that you would recommend?. I have an old cheap hardware store one but when I got attacked by a Turkey today it took 3 swings to finally dispatch him. He almost won the battle. If you have any suggestions let me know. I am debating between cold steel or condor. ,Until the RAT machete becomes available that is.

I would stay away from the Cold Steel machetes, hit or miss in the heat treat department IMO.

I have a Tramontina that cost me a whopping 11 bucks shipped to my door that has taken all I've thrown at it without a problem.

Attacked by a Turkey...how about a Gun....Sorry but I gotta Laugh..LOL ! I can see the paper now,Local man mauled by Crazed Turkey..... only reason i laugh is because,I was surprised by one and that turkey was pissed and I was startled..but I shot mine,no since in hacking him to death ...I like woodsman pal, they are great and USA made

O god, you guys are gona slap me.
Ontario 18in, go to town with a file and you will be set.

The cold steel bolo is also nice.

Thanks . I was actually gonna buy a Ontario machete a few weeks ago but decided to never own anything Ontario again , That's why I'm back in search mode. Thanks for the advice,i'll check out the ones mentioned

I know what the RAT Team will suggest, Tramontinas. If you can spend $6.

You got it, bear! For the amount spent, they're the best thing going in my opinion

Okay ... after brand, which length is "best"?

Or, do you select length based on your arm length?

Or the type of things you're going to cut/hack?

Or something else?

Or is it a situation where longer is almost always better, but it's a tradeoff with packing weight/size?

Oh good, I thought it was just my neighbors and I who only got attacked by Turkeys. I didn't kill any of them but I gave one big bastard a nice shot with a pipe. They haven't really bothered any one since
I couldn't shoot them since I live in a townhouse community, but getting an 18" Tromontina would work just as good I guess.

Speaking of machetes . . .

I just saw a little 82 year old Filipino guy in my back yard hacking the crap out of stuff with a Becker machete.

Of course, that's my dad, and I gave him that machete a few years ago because 1) he loves to hack at stuff with a machete, and 2) I wanted him to have a really nice one (he has no idea what I paid for it).

I know some collectors would be horrified that someone is not only using one, but beating the crap out of it and not caring at the same time. I think it's cool!

...and speaking of Becker...I just got off the phone with Ethan not more than 15 minutes ago. He called to talk for a while. He said things are going great at Kabar and the quality of the stuff that is coming out will be awesome. I know it's been slow for Ethan getting things rolling again but I have no doubt there's going to be some kick-ass stuff coming out from Ethan and KaBar. KaBar is one of the best production companies around, IMO.

yeah but the best Becker will not hit production again,my favorite the Brute BK1...I have one NIB and gonna get her out and abuse her something good..Hope things good well for Ethan,I need a BK2,to go with my others....
