Machetes & Bush Knives

Anybody use the Corona machete from Home Depot? It looks pretty decent on paper. I may go check it out on my lunch break.

I doubt there is anybody that has used them, unless of course you include the guy that put 3 pics of one and a video review of it in page 2.:D

This thread makes me want to buy yet another machete, but I'm trying to hold out for the RAT.

Why hold out? There are so many wonderful styles of machete out there to try...and they're cheap enough there's no reason not to have a dozen or so! :D

Hey guys, not to deal spot or anything, but my good buddy and I are working on a big project. He just opened up a website called "machete specialist". Might as well "unveil" it now. He just got a HUGE order of many of the harder to find Tramontina...if you like those. Personally, I would hold out for the Imacasa. But OF COURSE I would say that. He should have the Imacasa stuff in stock within a few weeks.

One of my favorite things to do I Brazil is visit dusty little farm co-op's and look for machete sheaths. All of these are users.

I have a few machetes. This is the Kriati Indian packbasket I keep them in.

Arent imacasa machetes the same as condors?

Imacasa is the parent company of Condor. Condor is their top-tier work, whereas the Imacasa line itself is more munitions grade. Still top quality in terms of designs, materials, etc. but the finish is a bit more on the course side, and doesn't come with a convex edge or leather sheath. :)

I have one with an 18" Blade that has not seen use as of yet. Seems like a good blade and handle. Definantly will be replacing the poor quality factory sheath if I end up using it a bit.

Some friends and I went camping Saptember 11th and 12th. We used a 14" Bolo by Tramontina to cut a green 5" diameter Quaking Aspen that had fallen acrost a trail. That blade really impressed the friend that did most of the work. Didn't take to long either. Green wood from around here is no match for a properly sharpened machete. That Bolo tram is now part of my camping rotation.

People should check out the Sirupati, Gelbu Special and Chitlangi style Khukris from Himalayan Imports. A 20" (over all length), 23oz Sirupati has been my go to blade for brush clearing/weed wacking to medium duty chopping.

I know Joe has a couple of those...he's even got one in his avatar! Very nice-handling machete. :)

The carbon models are GREAT stuff. Thats what got me hooked with them. They will be having a 14" model later on, and the bolo machete that will be coming out will be also extra sexy.
I love the look of this thing:

Well the vikings sure liked their axes and their puukos and that sure worked for them living in the northwoods. When in doubt, do what the locals are doing.

Viking warriors had a scramasax (spelling?) which was a large 10 to 14 in blade and carried on a horizontal back sheath. Their machete/utility knife as well as combat.
A lot of the scandinavians today still carry an axe and a large blade/leuko in the deep woods as well as a puuko.

Joe have you dropped the 80 bucks on a Wordan machete yet? Once I get my belt sander I'm gonna Wordanize my 22 inch tram to see what it is all about.
