*For anyone wondering- a bazillion is somewhere between twelve and twenty.
 
Yeah, even if compared to Kydex a weight penalty or cosmetics turns you off for a carry it looks an ideal solution for a vehicle tote. :-)
 
All this talk about machetes and wanting lightweight knives made me remember seeing the knives that Christmas Tree growers here in the mountains of North Carolina use to prune and shape the trees.

:o Ummm , I am the gent from Australia :o

but there is gunna be a fair break till anything shows up again from me , my wife had a mental meltdown and is currently in hospital 150 km away from me , so Im doing a commute there and back each day as well as organising the kids and calling in every favour I can to get baby sitters for the kids till this is over . Its kinda rattling to see my wife of near on 15 years sitting there asking who I am , and who she is , and where she is ... I sat with her thru a couple "episodes" allready , tried to get help from the nurses station , but they thought I was an inmate as well and refused to help wasnt till ages later at "pill time" when she didnt show for her meds that the Nurses came looking for her and found her seriously freaking out that we got any help
I been giving them stick about "If you mongrels treat your visitors who are here to help like that , what the hell do you treat the paitients like ?? Sorry , Im rambling , but Im feeling rattled tonight , forgive me please .
I spent 36 hours in the last 3 days in the nuthouse with the nutters , and Im feeling pretty dam freaky right now ... if you are not nuts when you go in , its a freakin miricale if you manage to keep your sanity when you come out , I dunno how people come out "cured"

I havent knowingly charged a boardie for a knife or shipping yet tho ( not that I can recall tonight anyway ) , ya just got to ask , Id much rather swap anyway , I only sell knives to buy others anyway ...

Thanks for the thoughts guys , seriously , it means a great deal to me .

My wife is doing OK tonight , new doctors , new medications , and she is almost back to her old self , her sister flew in from literally the other side of the country and made her day by turning up unannounced ... its looking good , very good .

I really didnt mean to hijack the thread tho , but thanks !

I didn't realize you and he were the same. :o:D I love Okapis, but don't have much actual, practical use for a machete :( (and I already own a few). Someday, though, you may hear from me... :D

On a much more serious note, I'm glad to hear your wife is doing better.

Myal,
My prayers go out to you and your family. You're doing the right thing sticking close to your woman. Hospital staff will treat her better if they know family members are close by and taking note of everything that happens. Sometimes, in my darker moments, I think people get better in spite of hospitals rather than because of them. So give them a bit of "stick" from me as well! Grrrrr!
 
when this is over , I reckon I should write a piece about "urban survival , surviving the psych ward"

yesterday I got there just in time to sit in on the shrinks interview with my wife , they asked me what she was capable of before she was sectioned , I began with her being a competent 4 wheel driver , an avid reader , they interrupted with "what ??!! you let her drive ?? she can read ??" it just happened that she didnt have her glasses and she is seriously frantic to get out of there ...
I pointed out a few home truths to the shrinks when they began their spiel about the psych ward being a calm stress free environment ... this girls fear has always been "theyre going to bash me" when she is flipping out she curls in the fetal position hands on head crying "dont let them bash me " it just happens that there are a dozen or so folk who like to roam the corridors screaming "Im gunna kill ya " "Im gunna rip your guts out and spread them round the walls " I personally dont think that is exactly a calm stress free environment ...
I had two shrinks looking at me blinking like a roo in the spotlight ... they got no idea what its like in there , they come buzz around doing interviews and leave , everyone else either plays quoits , reads the one national geographic magazine , plays "pool" on the rickety table with the torn felt , or watches "friends" or "simpsons" on the TV bored out of their minds ..

the drainpipe idea for a sheath is a gem of an idea , I like it .
I been using carboard and duct tape myself a lot , leather work here is expensive , I get most of it done in India now , where it cost me $65 a sheath for a knife with a four inch blade , I get better made sheath for $5 from India AND friendly ervice to boot ... I know its shipping jobs offshore but my finances are limited , and the locals are overworked allready it would seem .
