Can everyone please help me understand the reason I see these on a certain site for $3,000-$8,000? They look like nothing more than something you would pay $100-$500. Obviously I realize there must be something special about the maker or a limited quantity. I just have never seen knives that look so completely plain go for thousands of dollars. Be gentle….

There are certain makers and companies whose loyal followers allow them to sell their wares at ridiculous prices, not because of what they are but because of who they are. It's more of a social construct than a recognition of any intrinsic value.

Sometimes it's tough to understand the "demand" side of supply and demand (especially when emotions are clearly in play), but the principle still holds.

If I ever crack that code, I'll be selling custom Rhino Widgets as fast as I can get them in stock!

Ahhh, good ol' Kevin......

First you get a couple groupies. Then you form a cult. Only then can you charge ridiculous amounts of money for your knife. Am I right Mick, Jerry, Ernie???

(I jest somewhat, as I own blades from all. Pass the Kool-Aid, please.)

I’ve owned a few Mad Dogs from before some of the prices went nuts. There is a lot to offer there from a design and innovation standpoint although some of the mater choices aren’t so much state of the art anymore. If I won the lottery I’d own some again.

Since we're on the topic I'd say "Have you heard of Tracker Dan knives, out of curiosity?"
Tracker Dan's gas station shivs go for thousands because he's somehow convinced people that if they buy his knives, it confers special Navy SEAL fighting superpowers on the bearer. Not to mention, they also confer +500 Likes Clout on Instagram stablord Boogaloo bois who post up pics of them.

Anyone with the nicknames "Mad dog" and "War pig" have got to make a good knife. Street cred + swag bonus of x5000.

My nickname is "Cornfed" because I look like a big, ol, cornfed m*****f***** from Nebraska. Hence, I can't make knives. Not sure anyone would buy a Cornfed Knife.

Will you have a left-handed version?

Prestige I suppose. The chrome plating is actually pretty cool. I'm suprised more makers don't use this feature.

I have a few Maxpedition knives that were made as homages. The guys were friends at that time.
They were friends before that time. When those Maxpedition blades came out was when it got ugly.

I’ve handled a couple of Mad Dogs, even got to use one. They aren’t magic. Nothing really spectacular about em at all. They do have good ergonomics, but other than that no big deal.
