Mad Dog Update 2: Forget your Xrays folks...

Gentlemen,

I do not want to offend, but medical radiography and industrial radiography require very different settings. The energy and field densities required for metalographic radiograms should be well outside of the safe performance capabilities of hospital equipment. I would suggest that a materials testing lab perform the radiograms and that the information be made available to the forum.

If there is enough interest I could ask the folks I used to work with to shoot the image.

Take care,

Mike Crenshaw

You are indeed right about the different techniques and equipment used for industrial vrs medical.
I will not try to x-ray through the tang. As pointed out earlier, this is beyond the capabilities of my machine. However by using an angle it should be possible to use safe techniques to immage a notch if one exists.
Especially if the control is shown at the same angle along side the test blade.
If you have access to industrial radiography, that may be a better option.
In the meantime the test is on.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Jim
