"it's all fun-n-games until somebody looses an eye," right?

C'mon, guys, let's back up for just a minute and look at the posts we've made. Regardless of whether the name change is funny or not, what the hell is going on here with the way the dissenters are being treated? It is unbecoming of us and does not portray an accurate reflection of this forum. I send the link to this forum to people who are not regular visitors and I talk it and it's people up all the time to my wife, daughters, parents and best friends. Honestly, until the two threads regarding the name change are many pages back, I won't be sending that link. It's embarassing - to all of us.

I'm embarassed at the way the people who have objected have been treated. Nobody's "put an eye out" yet (I hope) but, a few more insults could easily pretty much do it. The fact that the dissenters, for the most part, have not supplied snappy comebacks kind of indicates this is a little more serious than a "convex v. Scandi" argument and it's not a lone dissenting voice. This is not a rift that I particularly enjoy seeing develop.

OK, so I'm a party pooper. Send me any and all references to feminine hygiene products, tissues, crying towels, whatever. Personally, I have a profound respect for the members of this forum and I love the bunch of ya, but I've had plenty of disappointments in my life and I am pretty much impervious to the small ones. Those, I chalk up to poor judgement on my own part so, they don't count anyway

Have we got it in us to back up and try again?

I have to respectfully disagree with this. Brian and Spark have proven a point with this thred, though that was probably not their intention. It has been pointed out that a good sense of humor and attitude is one of the main keys to survival. However, we have seen that many people do not have what has been listed as probably the #1 psychological key to survival.

People have gotten way too inflamed over what is a joke and began crying and b!tchin about something that really had no bearing in he overall flow or intent of this forum. I will not search for the comment at the moment, but I seem to recall a forum member that basically said such a name really reflected the intellect of all of us posters. I cannot speak for the rest of you, but I am on an academic scholarship in college, so I personally felt insulted by that remark. But I digress.

Also, I was baffled by the remarks that insinuated that a name change affected our posting. Aside from a couple of flame wars started over the nay sayers, nothign has changed in our general flow of conversation. People still post intriguing information. Pitdog still throws up great pics. Ilbruche still shows off awesome leather working skill. I still type stuff from the POV of a future outdoor worker. Brian still gives us hard scenarios and guys like Any and Christof keep getting praised by everyone for their awesome bladework [does the plug earn me a knife? :) ] Then, these crybabies, many of which I have never seen post much, come out of every recess, nook and cranny to whine and complain about something so insignificant that it could not help but be turned into a spectacle as it has.

Point is, if people cannot handle a sense of humor and a little ribbing here and there, then they have no business jumping on the 'net at all. No injury has been caused by the harmless fun we have been having. If someone decides that they will no longer visit this forum because their feelings got hurt by joke, then so be it. I really strongly believe that the name change showed that alot of people on here [I am sure there are exceptions] could not really handle a survival situation like the ones Brian has been throwing at us. As I mentioned earlier, this is because they lack humor or an attitude that reacts positively to adversity and change.

This is my opinion. Take it for what you will.

Doug, a sense of humor is fine - as long as it's funny, which is subjective. But this is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the way people who have disagreed with it have been treated. Such behavior in a survival situation would be a disaster. I agree that humor is necessary but I disagree with the mods for letting the abuse go on. Anyway, not my thread - I'll butt out. I appreciate the tone of your reply.

Thank you.

Here, Here:thumbup:

I see a lot of Gray in the World.

It's a PA Cloud cover thing.:D

Hey, now we can debate the survival value of pants that hang down by our knees and colorful boxers. :D

We could also have a thread on bass woofers what can be improvised from them.

I am sure some of the younger kids who do that are alright but sometimes i wish an emergency would happen and all these guys would fall on their faces.

We have a saying... "Ei nimi miestä pahenna, ellei mies nimeä". Roughly translated; “The name won’t worsen the man if the man won’t worsen the name.”.

I think that OG joke is actually funny. Talking about "survival" seems to get funny looks by those who are more intrested in Britneys new boyfriend or whatever, so pointing out that we do actually have a sense of humor might be a positive thing :)

I love a sence of humor. It's really funny when a bunch of seasoned outdoorsman with hundreds of years of combined wilderness and survival skills leave bladeforums because it has been taken over by immature, gangster, wannabe's. Just the kind of people we go the outdoors to avoid. Funny right? How's that for a sense of humor. Check out wilderness outfitters archery. No gangsters there.

I thought the old name was fine. Mimicking idiotic gangster culture does not amuse those of us who know the other side of things. One of the reasons I enjoy this forum is the level of experience and maturity. This sort of humor is rather juvenile.

I for one WILL continue to utilize this forum and respect its members, but the name did catch me off guard. I will admit a loathing of ebonics, while admitting that language does evolve and that this is the way of the future (bling is a word after all). I just wanted to put it out there that I would appreciate the name being changed again. Upon reading my post again I guess I should have used an emoticon to show that I am not a hard ass without humor, but I do not like much in relation with language such as this due to its close association to gangster lifestyles, which do no good and have harmed those that I know, on top of being totally poser.

Different strokes I guess.

Geeze. Just a bit of light hearted joking about. Some guys need to relax. This is a great forum, but as with all forums on the net, people tend to get very worked up over nothing.

Mimicking and satirizing are two totally different animals. And...I grew up around 'the other side of things' and deal with gangster types alot at work. It has nothing to do with that, most have shown that they are just overly sensitive and don't have a sense of humor at all...

Can we talk about the best sights for a survival handgun?

If leaving here in a supremacist huff, over a temporary ironical name change as an object of comedy is a statement of maturity and life experience, then sign me up for the immature wannabe label.
Holy Crap, this forum could easily be called "Emotional Diversity for the Tree Hugging, Chipmunk Embracing Outdoorsperson", and still be a wealth of information with just a few of the forumites that are already here.
BTW, I am a veteran of several of the "other sides" myself, and I find it humorous that anyone venturing into conversations about skills and survival would limit themselves by adopting such a tightly wound, egocentric attitude.

This is my thoughts on the matter. You dont like it? Dont click on it. It seems that the regular contributers here are all seeing the lightness in the joke, b/c we understand brians humor somewhat, and I for one love to laugh. If you cant take the joking I feel sorry for ya, you need to laugh more, there is too much horrible crap in this world not to laugh at the small stuff.

I think that insulting the intellagence level of those who are kicking the joke back and forth displays their stupidity, and if they are too blind to see the info is still flowing, then they will never get it antyways. Some people arent happy unless theyre whining bout something.

All those that say they wont be back till the jokes over, I wont shed a tear if youre not back at all.....Its your loss.

Keepin it real, makin my endz, and holdin down my hood......j

Great, now even the forums are ghetto-fied. I'm going to wait outside and look for the comet that hopefully is screaming its way toward earth. I want the dinosaurs back.
