"Made in Sheffield" 1830-1930, A golden age ?

Thanks Primble, this has been a great thread to read with a vast array of beautiful knives shown.

From a post on page 44...

WEISS & SON... 1787 at 42 Strand......1811 to 1822 at 33 Strand......1823 to 1868 at 62 Strand. Dating info found in KNIFE WORLD JUNE 2009.

Same mark is on this enormous lockback (granted this is a LONDON cutler and not Sheffield!) Case Peanut shown for scale. This one was blessedly less complicated to clean up than the previous knife!

The wear on the tang stamp and the wavy edge make me think the grind was touched up at some point, but the blades seem mostly full. And the gash in my thumb can attest to the sharpness

I got this Rodgers whittler in the recent Voyles auction. At first I was bummed that it had a pin crack on the middle pin on the pile side that wasn't mentioned in the description, but after they offered to take it back and refund me I decided to keep it anyway. I asked Mick about the age he guessed circa 1890-1900. The picture is from the auction.

Mike I generally don't like cracks either but in this case I would make an exception as well. Way nice!

Interesting whittler Mike :) , will you be posting up a few more pictures? What is the closed length?

Sweet knife Jamie.

Thanks for the compliments on the Rodgers. Charles had to hold my hand when I first saw the crack. Ken, it's 3 1/4. Some bad pictures:

(It's a small crack below the middle pin)

And surely worth waiting for! Looks very minty and unused. Congrats on scoring a stellar piece of cutlery  Pretty much my Grail right there.

A beauty Charles, and beautifully photographed as always :)

That's a beautiful frame on that knife, interesting touch the engraved shield. Was it a gift from one set of initials to another?

Thanks, Will
