Magic in a Lubricant....

Well I just ordered 2 bottles of the Daiwa reel oil from a fishing supply warehouse. We'll see what happens. Love the needle applicator on the bottles and the protective cap so I can have a bottle in my backpack.

Ever try Weaponshield? Comes in a similar applicator. Plus it smells like cinnamon! It's what I use on my pivots.

Which of these two do you think would work best for the pivot?

Quite honestly...it never occurred to me. I have been experimenting with it on my ZT 0560/0561 and my CRKs and they seem to fly open now. I've done some other things to all those knives so it was kind of hard to just attribute it to the lubricant. I'll try it in my new Manix xhp and see if I garner the same results.

Makes sense that a good quality lube that is formulated for reels would work well on a knife.
Thin but moisture resistant, viscous enough to hold position yet does nt gum up. Ultra-slick, rust resistant.
I'm liking this stuff.

Great applicator design, allows very precise placement and quantity control.
IF it is the same stuff, I think you will like it.

^^^if you can tell me where to get the oil you have I'll compare the two...since I already have the Diawa stuff and use it in knives already.

I will find out this week and post it. BTW it is holding in my 3" XM with no degradation in function after days and countless openings/closings.
Blade fires open more smoothly, less effort but more controlled. It's wierd, blade fires open with the mildest of finger flick BUT does so almost like it is hydraulic now.

This is a related question, but where might I purchase an inexpensive needle or syringe type applicator bottle? My ebay search did not give great results.

I use a Hoppes #9 bottle with needle applicator. I dumped the Hoppes when I found that the Slick 50 was better and filled it with Slick 50 after carefully cleaning out the bottle. Liberty oil comes in a similar bottle.

What I would like to find, is the empty bottle. But based on the little that I have found, an empty bottle doesn't cost much less than that 14.9 ml bottle of Hoppes (with needle applicator) that you are talking about, so maybe thats the way to go. I order some Ballistol a while back, and received a needle applicator bottle with it, but its full of Ballistol (which I think smells incredibly nasty).

Use the Ballistol bottle or better yet order the Daiwa oil. I found it for $3.80 and since shipping was around $5 I bought 2 bottles. I like how there is a cover over the needle so you can carry it with you without worrying about breaking the needle.

Powernoodle - I sent you a PM. Found a needle tip applicator bottle at a Hobby Shop website... Needle Tip Applicator is what you want to google.

Interesting.......I was using WD-40 but found it didnt last long and migrated too much.

Tried a silicon lube which did little to help the detent ball against the tang.

Now using CRK grease which keeps things smooth and lubed but not flying open on most of my XMs.

I'm open to something better and was looking at BM Bluelube and Nano-oil....may have to try some of this stuff..

in the beginning of my knife collecting wd-40 is what I used but hated that it attracted so much crap(dust, lint, everything else). tuff glide and crk grease is what I use now I just wish crk was still using the syringe.

jay- I'm not sure what your weather conditions are like but if it is humid in your parts have you had any issue with the crk grease? where I'm at now I've found no issue with my hinderers, but for some reason my crk's feel like the grease is drying up. maybe teflon makes the difference.

slick 50 and diawa are the bees knees it seems

It can get moderately humid at times but nothing excessive. CRK grease does have a slightly less viscous medium when freshly applied which does dry out, the grease however is pretty good but not super slick.

I find the CRK grease works really well on the detent ball / tang detent track and detent hole.

In the pivot its ok but has poor capillary action, so - when performing the blade centering adjustment the tightening up of the pivot tends to squeeze the grease out from the pivot which then does not wick back into the pivot when loosening the pivot after adjustment.

I would also like to know where to find this. I have been looking for a good oil.

CRK grease is Krytox by Dow Corning I think which works good ... I worked for a major copier/printer mfg company for years (rhymes with ZROX) we used fuser oil/grease (part of the copier/printing process) and it is some kinda slippery ... only use a small amount ... will migrate if you get to carried away with too much ... BTW also works really well to keep "your friends" car in place if applied to rear wheels ;<)

I just did some research on Nano-Oil, which seems to be the latest craze on the forums and it looks like this same stuff repackaged with the name Nano-Oil!!!!!!!

I just buy a regular syringe and needle at the pharmacy or feed store and it cost less than a dollar.

I used nano-oil for quite some time now on all my knives, I am very sure its not the same stuff since Christian St Claire has a patent on it.

Check their website for the tech info behind nano-oil its the slickiest oil I found. Also Howesknifeshop is a dealer of the real nano-oil.

You'd pick it over tuf-glide?

Well, coming back round to Rubi's OP, I really want to get my hands on that Chem stuff too...
