Magnacut in Chinese knives

Sorry, but for the most part I don't trust what the majority of them claim to be made of. I own a few Chinese knives but try to stay away most of the time.
How does what one believes, or doesn't, have a bearing on what actually is? Wouldn't it be better to have actual facts?

We are not going to get into politics here. If it is simply a question of not wanting to buy imported knives from particular countries, that is your right. That is not the matter before us in this thread, and this discussion will not go down that road.

I've asked the head of Niagara Specialty Metals, a gentleman I've had the privilege of speaking with a handful of times, to answer the question posed in the original post...that should put any question of "belief" to bed.

Is Yan Knives an American company? If not, then (as I said) it looks like Chinese companies are indeed able to source MC.

Yan has a California address on their website, but either way Chinese companies can source MC—Maxace and Bestech both use it on their in-house designed and built models

They seem to be one of those CAD designers who has his stuff made overseas. Lots of that type of business model showing up, they were all over Blade-Tx and Blade-West, last year.

I've been noticing several different knives manufactured in China lately with Magnacut blades. I thought I read when it first came on the scene that it wasn't going to be sold to Chinese manufacturers for first five years or something along those lines? I'm not trying to start a whole American vs Chinese knives in this thread so please keep the politics out of the discussion please. It honestly doesn't matter to me either way as I collect mostly American made knives, but I do own and enjoy my share of Asian made ones as well. I was just wondering if something has changed or if these manufacturers have skated around the initial mandate.
It appears there has been some unauthorized sales of MagnaCut steel, specifically involving Besttech at the Blade Show.
  1. Distribution Policy: MagnaCut is not currently being sold to any distributors in Asia. Crucible confiscated some MagnaCut knives from Besttech at the Blade Show because they violated the MagnaCut trademark. The knives tested were confirmed to be made from genuine MagnaCut.
  2. Unknown Source: It is unclear how Besttech or others have obtained the MagnaCut.
  3. Communication with Distributors: Discussions have been held with authorized distributors to reinforce the rules, emphasizing that any violations could jeopardize their ability to sell MagnaCut in the future.

Great info, thanks for commenting and clearing up the rumors, which are apparently true...

Thanks for the reply I knew I was correct about sales to asia

I'm sure that reputable Chinese manufacturers like Reate are using the genuine article with the correct heat treating protocol.

That said claiming your knife is made from the latest super steel, only for the market to later discover it isn't is nothing new and has certainly happened in many places......
I also find volume equals feedback.

So we are more likley to find out if a Chinese company selling a million knives is selling duds.

Think we are done here. Going to close this now.
