I have always liked the magnum camp knife, but never got one over the years, so I want to know what you use your becker camp knife for? How do you like it design and function? May just have to get one.......my problem, I can find uses for it I am sure, but my BK 9 handles alot of the rougher stuff, is the camp knife useful around the camp site? I know it depends on a persons perspective and what they want to use it for, but I would like ssome input from those who use it.;)

The BK5 is a cooking knife (butcher) great for slicing meat and anything else:D at the campsite grill. It also doubles as a combat knife if attacked by zombies at the cookout.

I always thought the BK5 looked more like a fighting type knife. In the sense that the point is somewhat tanto-ish, for strength, but also with that upswept edge. Between the two, it seems it would be excellent for both thrust and slash. I don't have one, but I'm sure it's very balanced, and Ethan said it was fast. Has anyone else ever thought this, or am I all alone, and about to get made fun of for the rest of my life? :D

Ive been debating getting one to use as my go to kitchen/grill/campfire cooking knife. Id like to hold one but there aren't any vendors in my area. I guess ill just hafta dive right in and order one and hope I like it....what the hell that's worked out extremely well with all the other beckers I've owned :D

I've always thought it resembles some of the scalpers in the F&I war era.
I imagine a Huron scout running through the woods would have carried something like this on his belt.

I know what your sayin. Its kinda freaky buying a knife that ya have'nt even seen or held before.I'll bet I'm the only person in my county who owns or has even herd of becker knives other than people I've tried to convert. One good thing about it it's a becker so ya know it's gonna ROCK!!!

darth maul neeeenja :>

yeah, that's the ticket. ya know, for such a thin fast knife, it sure does process wood well. course, it's an all purpose knife, esp handy for camp chores. perhaps self-defence from yetis. might be useful as a pig sticker, but we have Steve Johnson's Bacon Maker for that too in the KaBar family.

food prep, carving big pieces of meat into smaller ones, camp cooking...

the magnum camp has always been something that has interested me but I don't think I'd ever buy it. Mini mag maybe, if you're going to do it at all I would wait a year or so and get that one.

"for carving large mammals, y'know?" LOL this dude is great.

I want one of these but can't think of what I'd use it for. I want a BK11 too, but I can think of twenty things I could use that for immediately.

I use mine primarily in the kitchen, but I'll be honest. Its fighting knife if there ever was one. Fisk is a great guy, and an even better designer.

The BK5 breaks the mold that most cast for BKT's. It not big, its not heavy, and its not thick. Its so well balanced, it just floats in the hands. A few "special" military forces are looking into making the BK5 the standard issue for their CQB guys. No, nothing like a government contract, but as a buy as needed basis. With that said, its a good all around good camp knife.

I'll be showin' ya'll that pretty soon, me thinks.

Can you baton and what not with the Bk5 ?

I really, really like the look of this knife, but couldn't bring myself to buy one for a camp knife because I wasn't sure if it would function to process wood in a pinch.

Its clearly an outstanding knife for many things, but the thinned spine and the shape said fighter or kitchen knife to me ..lol and it is too long to be purely a "Fine work knife"

If it will hold up to appropriate batoning and other camp tasks besides food prep than I may have to buy one.

Visually its one of my favorite Beckers.

The BK-5 is good to go for processing wood. It's thinner, but it'll baton just fine as long as we're not talking knotty hard woods.
Moose and I were just talking today about the strengths of the 5. It'll really do it all, from food prep to fire prep.
That's why it's called the Magnum Camp.

I'll bet it eats a baton with that full length swedge.
