Magnum vs 'standard' slabs - BATAC

Appologies if this is verging on spamming, however, it seemed like a question that was rising in another thread that was suitably different to merit another thread.

If it's verging on spamming sorry, I'm just maybe a little too eager to place my order and want to get my first busse right :)

I've settled on urban grey w/ Black canvas handles hopefully with a sterile blade, however the last remaining choice is magnum vs 'standard' tac slabs.

I've spent the past hour or so trawling the busse forum looking for info and pics of the magnum grips and I love the look of the contours of the grips, but I'm not sure if they're required or best suited to the size of the BATAC.

My hands are a rather small size 8 (approximately a size small in Hatch gloves) and as such I'm a little concerned by what the name 'magnum' might imply.

From what I've seen it looks as if the grips taper to thinner than a normal slab and swell to slightly wider, meaning in points you have a narrower choke on the knife than a 'standard' grip and in the center of your grip, you have a palm swell that should fill your hand.

Unfortuantely I find it very difficult to gauge how large these grips are overall and as such have no idea if they'll fit my rather small mitts

Add to that, I'm kinda curious if the magnum handle is best suited to this kind of knife? And maybe if the standard handle offers more dexterity at the expense of less grip or some such?

Sorry if this comes off as a stream of concious, only I always assume that with high quality knives such as busse everything is there for a reason, and following the logic, the standard grips might have some benefit I'm not seeing (maybe they're just easier to carry or fit people with small hands like mine more comfortably).

Any help as always much appreciated.

Cheers

I would say go with the Standard handles. Small knife/small handles makes sense to me, especially if you have smaller hands. IMO Magnums are better suited to the Steel Hearts and Battle Mistresses - both choppers... Don't agonize too much over this - you will love the Std handles on the BATAC.

You'll probably be just fine with the standards. I like the Hell Razor knife with the magnums, and in fact the Ram Warden (with the bone handles) came fairly thick, almost 'magnum' compared to the size of the knife and even liked that. My hands are on the larger side of medium. The mags seem to allow more grip when gripping towards the back of the handle...

For me, in the SJTAC, the combo of the thinner blade and standard handles was too thin (very flat feeling). I'm hoping the mag handles will add just enough palm swell to make it perfect. FYI, the HOGSJTLE didn't feel nearly as thin/flat to me with its thicker blade.

My hands aren't big, but I have long fingers.

Also, FWIW, I preferred the Heavy Heart with mags instead of standard scales.

Do what I did, order one of each. Keep the one you like and sell the one that you don't.

First off, your post isn't spamming in the least nor is anyone likely to jump on you about searching first. We love to talk about this stuff! ;)

In the SF and Fusion grips, I much prefer the mag. This is even true of the HOG thickness blades.

The TAC grips on my SJT felt a bit small at first but, with more use, I've come to appreciate their quickness. I expect the BAT to feel the same way. In terms of thickness or ergonomics of a mag TAC grip, no one outside of Wauseon has seen one to my knowledge. It should be interesting and I hope the finished LE is a TAC magnum.

For what it is worth, I have medium sized, somewhat thin hands... especially for someone 6'3", 225#. The EU grips didn't fit me so well... at least the ones on the BIBB.

Good luck!

That's what I did on the Heavy Heart, and it worked well for me in that case. Might be the best choice here if you can afford it. Some extra outlay up front, but you'll definitely be able to get your money out of the one you don't like.

Sort of like insurance. Spend a little money up front, make sure you get the one you really like.

At the fall Knob Creek machine gun shoot, Eric showed me the difference in standard and magnum slabs on Satin Jacks. I thought the standard slabs were too narrow for my chubby hands and I only wear a medium. The magnums fit me way better.

I odered a Badger in TAN/Magnum TAN combo already. Probably have to get another in TAN/Snakeskin next.

Good luck.

Hello I was wondering if the "optional handles" on the Badger will be sized difference. The website doesn't specify "magnum" that I have seen, but does state " optional handles. Thanks Bill

Chuck... really?? Was it on a SJT?

Hey, Porkerson!! How about some spine pics for comparison?

Never feel that you are spamming.............WELCOME to Busse!!!

I have very small hands but I have very long fingers and I prefer the Magnum handles .....Just feels more comfortable.......but that is just my opinion:) :) :)

Any other questions call Busse and ask for Amy-0:) :)

I believe it was. Of course, I was freezing, talking, drooling, and smoking so it might have been on anything at the Hog and Rat tables:D

I do remember that I liked the mags better though.

Right now the only place it shows the magnum handles is on the actual order page. If you follow the link to order and select buy now, you will get a page with all the options listed. The different mag options are shown there.

I want to know if the BAC LE has magnum handles or not. I too have a small paw and am torn which handle to order or go with the LE!! Wish I could do both but really can't. If anyone finds out if the BAC LE has magnum handles please post on this thread. Thanks all. J

I prefer the mags. But I wished there where snakeskin mags. I do like the look of tan/snakeskin:thumbup:
