Magpul Breslau shipping date ???

Ugh. The tip down only era. I don't miss those days. Didn't know it was MIM 440C. Is that sort of like gen 1 particle metallurgy? I have no idea how long spray forming or whatever was going on. Interesting.
I'm pretty sure particle metallurgy predates MIM by at least a decade.

Exactly. So, the day has not really been had yet. 2007 is the center of the span of years when I was away from my interest in the kife industry part of this hobby. I didn't know the Kershaw specimen existed until ike 3 seconds before I started hearing about the Magpul. Last I had heard, decades ago, was that MIM was only suitable for very niche applications. Stereolithography was hot at that moment and the talk was that something similar would soon be used beyond rapid prototyping and into production-on-demand, even for things like tools. Sometime in there, I saw a video of a giant robot 3d printing a house on site, yet 20 years later there's a housing shortage? Feels like we're in a weird era of great advancement with little actual application. And patent dickery may be part of the reason why, I dunno.

My disappointment lies in the failure to deliver on a wide launch of a reduced cost, mass produced, functional MIM product to shake up the industry. The industry, naturally, dislikes being shook.

I have to heavily second all of this. And we're in a crazy knife renaissance period right now. If I went back in time and told 90's or early 2000's me what would be common place today the younger me would laugh and throat punch my presumed lying face. Cheap easy to find PM steels in knives anywhere? Premium priced Chinese knives?

And I remember MIM being the snobby 1911 kicking dead horse item even though fairly high end makers were using MIM parts just fine. Heck, I remember wondering why Ruger didn't bring investment casting with some alloy of steel into the knife market. Minimal machining from an investment cast blade? I would think that would cut manufacturing down a chunk if you could get the steel right.

There was even a video where some guys used some crazy laser 3D printing on steel dust to make a 1911 minus I think just the springs and then shot it and it worked fine. And that was going on twenty years ago. We should be more than capable of better by today.

But we're still just grinding? Seems strange.
