Here's the deal. After a situation between myself and another Forum member, I felt somewhat challenged to try to bring about some positive change from it. This morning, I had a small idea, and I'm willing to try it here on the Busse Combat Forum if y'all don't object. (open to ALL BladeForum.com members who wish to get involved. :)) This is completely separate from the matter that I mentioned above, so PLEASE do not use this thread to start that discussion, this is for POSITIVE actions ONLY, PLEASE. Cool? :) (...Seriously, if a negative discussion begins here, I will LOCK this thread faster than a MOD. PLEASE don't make me do that.)
And... I also wanna see some tasty Busse KNIFE PORN to help get everyone PSYCH'D for BLADE'07, OK? Please????????

:D Excellent!!

Ok... Recognizing that abandoned pets of all types pose serious problems in many areas, and MY personal feelings about killing these animals... I want to raise some money to donate to a few worthy organizations who support catch and release spay/neuter programs so that A.) the animal may live out its life, but B.) not be able to contribute to the population in that area, which after 1 generation, will seriously help to reduce the population of the target animal, ie. cats & dogs.
Also, I'd like to donate 1/2 of the proceeds to one or two 'no-kill' shelters for all types of abandoned or rescued pets, whether adoptable or not.

I'm a rescue cat... Won't you help my Daddy help other abandoned pets???

I will match all of your donations dollar for dollar up to $1000.00 ... Which will hopefully equal $2000+ for worthy organizations to help both abandoned animals, and also to help control feral animal populations through non-lethal methods. If this meets with success, I may decide to increase my end. :) I figure that the best thing to do is just get your pledge to donate now and then after I return from BLADE, pick the best 2 or more organizations & post them here for you all to consider their worthiness, and then ask for your pledged donation amount$. I will want to be able to document the total amounts and all accountable receipts here for all to see, and I want to make sure that these chosen Org.'s have these funds ready for use well before the Labor Day crunch... Let's try and make a little positive change happen. Little guys need love too.

Also, I need suggestions for WORTHY honest, not for profit/ non-profit organizations that fit these criteria, PLEASE! I know a few, but would like to hear about any new nationwide organizations that I am not aware of yet. I will also hunt down a few and post ones I find that fit for your consideration.
On a side note, my 4 cats were adopted from a no-kill shelter in Pennsylvania, called The CatAngel Network. All are spayed/neutered. All are only allowed out when I'm home to watch them, and all wear collars with 2 bells and a rabies ID tag to give little critters an early warning to avoid a confrontation. Cats are natural predators with instincts, and I do what I can to discourage them from hunting. (jingle_jingle! LOL)
Thank you for your consideration.

Jaxx I see in that addition to Busse we also share an affinity for rescued animals.

I adopted my cat Zephyr from the Delaware County SPCA about 9 years ago. That experience and the whole plight of the many thousands of homeless animals in our area encouraged my wife and I to start volunteering. We volunteered at the Chester County SPCA as animal photographers for three years, only stopping once when I decided to go back to grad school (ok there were some other reasons as well but lets not get into here). My wife still volunteers for PALS in the local PetSmart.

I wrote a whole website about my experience as a shelter photographer here: http://www.furtography.com. It was one of the most meaningful things I’ve done in my life and I will resume once I start school. These little guys definitely need our help. They have so much to offer in return.

We donate money all the time to local and national charities but I will also pledge for your fund raiser :D

Jaxx,

We'll make a contribution as well. We consistently adopt from and give to rescue organizations -- good call

Here's 2 of our current adoptees:

Lacie Mae (deaf pittie):

It won't be much, but I am also in, Jaxx!

My personal rescue cat, Missy. She was mere minutes away from heading straight to the pound when I swooped in and gave her a good home.. ;)

I have two cats. One is a very expensive purebred Bengal, and the other is a NYC alleycat/ shelter rescue. Guess which one is less of a headache? Yes, the $35 dollar adopted one. I learned my lesson! I have since seen the light.

Letting cats run free around me is asking for trouble because of the alligators. More than a few neighbors have lost pets that way.:(

I do like your idea, and I am in!

My language may be a little confusing... Since I haven't pick the Org.'s yet, in all fairness, I should only ask for your pledge to help and let you decide later how much you wish to donate once I post the intended Organizations. Me personally, well I'm hoping to donate at least $1000 on a 'dollar for dollar' challenge!

I'm in! Although I have been involved in rescuing wildlife rather than domestics, I think this is a proactive way of handling the issues at hand. My suggestion for one organization would be http://www.wranps.org/. I use to rehabilitate raptors and reptiles through this organization, but I will support the ones that you choose.
