Hey guys, I just had a listing cancelled because I didn't list the species that the bone handles came from!!!! Where do they come up with this??? Why can't they send out a policy change notice before they just cancel the listings??? What a bunch of a-holes, I spent all that time doing up a listing just to have it cancelled for no reason, with no link to make the corrections. I had it listed as a Bone Handled Camillus Trapper, so I guess now you have to say Cow Bone, ridiculous!

Eric,

This is crap. It gets worse with them every day.:thumbdn:

Questions:

Is "Cow Bone" appropriate? or "Bovine Bone".? What?

Did they give you any feedback on what is appropriate?

What a rip off sorry to hear about your trouble eric. I watch all kinds of knives in " my ebay" and its amazing how many of them just Dissappear. Probablly cause it said bone or looked like an auto. - Joel

What is eBay's problem?
A good question, although one that is usually impossible to answer. I once spent an hour and a half in telephone and email "conversation" with one of their "customer service" automatons. I have had much more rewarding experiences at the dentist's office, without anesthetic.
Their policy on "Animals and Wildlife Products" does not even contain the word "bone".:grumpy:

I think I got it now(maybe???); if we list our knives as, lets say for example:

Bovine shin bone of a non-threatened species which is in compliance with eBays "Animals and Wildlife Products policy.

Perhaps this type of BS description would be acceptable? What do you all think?

As a past time there are people who look for any infractions and report them. The competition will do this also. eBay doesn't actively look since there's too many auctions to check.

Personally, I would love to see the secondary online knife market stage an exodus from eBay and take up residence on one of the other auction sites. If they keep up this sort of crap, I can see it happening.

I'm with you on that one Guyon. I don't know why they singled me out, I wasn't even aware of that policy. I've e-mailed them for an explanation but of course I haven't heard anything back. I figured I'd send out that warning just before I went to work, half expecting to check toight and find a slew of people with the same problem. Now I'm beginning to wonder.

Ive had many listings cancelled for similar trivial b.s.Last one had less than a day left and was cancelled because i said not 110.I was selling a Buck 112.It was most likely some jealous snoop with nothing better to do.ebay is horrible and getting worse but it's where everybody goes.

Apparently E-Bay also has a new policy on payment methods. They have a limited list of categories for which checlks or MO's may be used, and knives aren't on the list.

I have passed up bidding on a couple of knives recently because Paypal was the only payment method listed.

eBay pretty much sucks anymore. The last time I used my account I listed some old antique coins in a lot. They cancelled the auction because they said my account was compromised. Its funny that was the last I heard of that. No follow-up or investigation was done. Never got a credit back for the cancel either.

I'm glad I don't use it anymore though. At least now I don't have to worry about some mindless joker on the other end bidding something up higher than what it sells for in a retail store. That just kills me.

I've already day dreamed that this would occur for a while now, but the truth is unfortunately it will likely never happen without an organized movement by some dedicated knife knuts whom may even consider hosting their own auction site specifically dedicated to such endeavor.

eBay is a joke. They've done the same to me for selling a rifle sling. No you read that correctly, a rifle sling!

did you look at the search results and make sure the type of bone was not listed? 'cow' ,'giraffe' etc could be right in front of 'bone handle' on all those search results.

I did, and it was not.

This just in from eBayUK, for information on the newest from across the pond:
***Change to policy regarding sale of knives on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie***

09 February, 2009 | 08:00PM GMT

We wanted to inform you of a change to our policies regarding the sale of knives.

All knives except cutlery will be banned from sale on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie.

This will impact UK, Irish and international sellers who currently list knives for sale to buyers on the eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie sites.

Over the last year we have made several changes to our policies regarding sales of knives and also Samurai swords to ensure that only legal knives are available on the UK and Irish sites. However, the criteria for what constitutes a legal knife are increasingly complex, and this step is necessary to help further protect our members and provide them with the highest safety standards.

We will be updating this AB post shortly to ensure that any sellers of knives have full notice, details and timings for the changes.

Thank you for your support in continuing to make eBay such a vibrant and trusted marketplace.

Regards,

The eBay Team
Gotta love a vibrant and trusted marketplace:barf:
