Maker's Mark Shout Out

Since I have several pantograph engraving machines, I have always used them to mark blades. Some were block, some script. All said "Bill DeShivs."
Later, I just took a hunk of brass and a Sharpie and wrote "Bill DeShivs" out. I then hand engraved the brass block and use it as a template for the pantograph machines. My maker's mark can now be any size that I need it to be.IMG_2064.JPG

I played an online game called Ultima Online for 12 years. My name was Comet
I electro etch a comet onto my blades after the forge scale has been cleaned off.

It’s only a hobby for me, but my older daughter told me “daddy you have to sign your art projects.” I explained that smiths use makers marks to sign their work that are often pictures. My younger daughter is obsessed with sharks, so she wanted me to put sharks on my knives. My wife made the picture for me, a hammerhead shark with the head swapped out for a cross peen. A real family affair. Applied in the most basic and unprofessional way possible. “Stencils” cut from electrical tape and q-tips clamped with a little battery charger... makes my ladies happy though and that’s what matters.

It doesn't hurt that it's totally badass though....

Mine is simple as can be. Loveless football shape. I’m thinking about potentially coming up with something a little more elegant at some point hopefully.

I recently had an epiphany regarding electro chemical etching. Squirting a little windex under your stencil prior to etching seals your stencil to the metal surface better, preventing a hazy etch or marking outside of the desired location. I heard someone once mention that they store their stencils in water as it keeps them playable and from rolling up when they dry out. I keep mine in a large medical textbook now but am thinking about trying that method.

initials for my name - Harbeer Singh Chahal
my father and older brother have the same initials so I'm the "third"

also somehow I envisioned the "///" to be three knife slashes... or something like that :-)

I use Kimmi's ( My last name) Cutlery with city and state. In the center I have the number of the knife in the order I've made them and the year it was made. This one is the 83rd knife made in 2018. I have this laser engraved at a local business.

I really like your mark Trey. And your style. It's like mine. No names, initials, yadd-yadda. Just a cool little mark that means something to you. Right on!

first name combined with middle name
old timey typewriter font. Sort of wish I used a more clear font as this one has by intent some voids.
IMG stencil, 94 Etchant

Thanks . Yeah I'm a simple guy, I care more about how my stuff cuts than looks. My knives make me happy enough, dont really care if people know my name as long as the knives get used. Very good friend of mine drew my makers mark, I don't think I'll ever change it .

Don't be shy, we still have makers on the forum who have not posted picts of their makers mark. This could be a real aid to collectors and knife makers in the future.

Glad I sumbled upon this thread. Was thinking of starting a makers mark thread, as I'm trying to come up with my own. Also a great resource in general.

Scott- you can't stamp blades-gotta etch. And, that mirror polish-you know that's not tactical!
