Maker's Mark Shout Out

Simple mark. On the bevels for folders and kitchen knives and on the ricasso for hunters.

Ive got two marks I use. These are older marks which washed out a bit, and the newer stencils are crisper.

This is the mark I use on my higher end knives.

This is the mark I use for my more budget line. As ground finishes, and usually synthetic handle materials. Same heat treat and geometry, but much less time consuming.

Without a doubt.....it's pronounced..."BOOZE-TOE"....It was actually interesting the First Time the NASA site Director called me by that name because he had heard others call me by that name. It came to pass that other NASA centers that we worked closely with also knew me by that name ONLY many did not know my actual name....The Mayor calls me Busto...My Parents call me Busto...I don't think my ex wife knows my first name....DOH!!!!

Is there an equally interesting story behind the origin of your nickname?! Btw your avatar looks exactly like my friend Robert!

The Avatar was my Pit Bull "Titus" that my daughter Photoshopped The Nickname came from my high school football coach who had trouble pronouncing my last name...:)

I use my runic initials JSP, and occasionally I write my full name JUHA S. PERTTULA with runes. Originally I started to use runes because they are easy to carve in wood and looks good.

Hate to break it to you but your runes are wrong. Runes are not letter replacements thy are sound replacements. So you have to sound out your name and match it to the runes sounds. Also runes never use double letters side by side. Here this will help.

Because an 1800 year old language is able to be directly interpreted via jpeg....

The sound values of runes are not a problem with Finnish language because we use exact sound values when we write our language. So, the old runes match very well with modern Finnish language and my name. I think that similar runes side by side was avoided but it was not strict rule. The biggest problem with runes and Finnish language is that runes are associated with Germanic and Swedish languages. Finnish language is different and very rarely written by runes, despite during history Finland and Sweden have had very close connections. We have rune like writings, owner's and maker's marks which nobody can read. Swedish historian professors have explained that Finnish people were stupid illiterate barbarians and they just imitated runes, which is of course not true. Anyway, we have strong tradition to use maker's marks that resemble runes, the marks are also often derived from Latin letters. I prefer to use clear runes instead of cryptic mark.

PEU are my initials: Pablo Ezequiel Untroib...
The star? well... when I decided on my makers mark the initials seemed not enough, so I looked for a symbol in the windows symbol fonts I had installed and there it is :D
On the technical side, since I use stencils to electro etch it, it was important that the P was open so applying it was not a PITA.

We still have makers here that have not put up your marks, lets see em boys :D

My mark is my last name in all caps followed by a stylized “W” made from a trinity knot overlapping a square.
